Default Yanks American car weekend Shakey

I have just got back from Shakespeare County Raceway and I had a great weekend of Drag racing, American cars and Barbys & Boozing!

Here a 2 vids and some pics.

I ran a best of 13.67 with no burnout going round the water box and the track surface temp was 100f!

Here is the Vette whopping my brothers 56 Belair! 13.7 to 14.0

Grate pix and videos

I have visited this track twice just to see my first top fuel run.
The first visit I was in the viding area having lunch and I missed it
It had a British flag on it and blew its engine

The second time it was an official visit with Bahrain drag racing club
And it rained

Ps did any plane land on the strip that day?

No planes on the track!

Another shot of the Vette!

My old 85 C4 was there! first time I've seen it for about 4 years! The same guy I sold it to still owns it and it still looks in top notch condition!

Here is my first run of the day against a 69 twin turbo sbc engined Firebird that ran 9.9!

Here is my last run of the day against a supercharged 68 Camaro runs 10's!

I raced all the fast boys but noticed I wooped them all on reaction times!

Here is a C6 ZO6 that runs 11.8 even though he hesitates as he comes off the start line!

Wow, that Viper was quick.
So what was your best time for the day, was it at the beginning of the draggs, or did things improve later in the day

Hi Graham, my best time was against that Viper and Paul (Vetmanuk) has a piture of the finish line with it displayed on here 13.67.

I did 4 runs 3 were back to back runs as there were no many poeple racing first thing Saturady morning, but it was hot my temp gauge hit 225f

I ran 13.96 101.29 then. I raced my brother in his 56 Belair and ran 13.7 102.49 then the Viper 13.67 101.54 that was my best 60ft time 2.11
Then I raced the supercharged Camaro 13.96 100.4 I tried flashing he TC on this run and a short burnout but I went slower.

All the other runs I loaded the TC a little, I think I could have down a 13.5 if I got my 60ft down to 2.0 but my car has a European quietness pack which restricts my exhaust as I should be running low 13's with 3.15 gears. my engine is toatally stock not even a CAI, that Vararam get really good write ups on CF, sounds like a worthwhile mod.

Are you registered and SVAed yet? I never went to the CCCUK at Huntingdon last Sunday because of the rain!
Cheers Andy

Hi Andy,
Thats some good times, considering you are no-mods.
Which way do you feel got you the best quarter?
Did you leave TC off, and just keep AH?
pull away in "3" not "D"
Powerbrake to 1300rpm?

I am all SVA'ed, Taxed, number plates, (rear only) etc, just this damn weather is keeping the vette under covers, safe and dry.

I mean, there is no point me just going out, for going out sake if it's ****-pouring down.
I rather wait until this rain has passed us by.

I would like to try the track, as I am just wanting to see what she can do.
It won't be a regular excursion, but, I would be hoping for low 13's

I will be removing the RF's when the weather dries up, and I have 4 new NRF's to have fitted an balanced.

I have bought one of those tubeless self repair kits, and I will carry a small compressor.

Failing that, I have bought a space saver wheel, and I can phone one of my family, who live close to home to come fetch it to me.
Might be a long wait on the side of the road, however, I feel I am not one to pick up punctures, last puncture must have been 50k miles ago.

Hi Graham, yeh Traction Control off I didn't have any trouble with traction as these Toyo proxes just dig in and go. I don't have active handling you will have to do a search on CF to find what is best. I seem to remember some guys put it in competitive driving mode. I didn't powerbrake as much as I usually do. I just loaded it a liitle. I think if I powerbraked it a bit more i would get a 2.0 60ft time and then maybe 13.5 or 13.4

I tried 3rd and D I didn't really notice any difference in the times. Most guys seem to say use 3rd.

We were meant to be at Shakey this weekend for the Nostalgia Nationals but everyones not going because of this rain. Our next meeting is at Santa Pod at the end of July the Mopar Nationals. It's American cars only on the drag strip and is allways a good event.

Cheers Andy

Damn quick viper! i'd love to know what mine runs, but it's still a work in progress at the moment was just going with cam but think i might pic up a set of patriot heads in a few weeks time aswell, then hit the track i'm sure Graham knows with Esthers right foot she should pull of some good times lol, i'd be hoping for mid 11s if my rear stays in one peace!

Mods in sig as it stands, but have comp cams SI5 231 237,112 on way, parts are being ordered in bits, but i'm considering leaving buying springs & valves train setup & just getting a set of ls6 heads in couple of weeks which will allready have springs, retainers setup probably need new pushrods but i'll probably save some money buying the heads, than buying all the valvetrain components, going cam only, then spending the extra on heads later, still need oil pump & timing chain, i'm just spending money on parts as cash becomes available, but these are my goals over the summer, the only thing worrying me is getting a good tune somewhere!
Cars running so it might be good to see what it runs before, what date is pod?
