Default Should ATAP disconnect when you start the car?

My car all the sudden won't start anymore. It cranks, but no start. I noticed that the LED on the Autotap cable turns off and if the S/W is up and connected it drops the connection when the key goes to Start. I checked everything and the DLC connector and the PCM leads all have power when the key is in the Start position.

So, is this normal? I connected my Autotap (which is the universal model) to another car (a Ford, my only other car new enough for OBD2) and the light stays on during Start. Is this also true of Camaros/Firebirds?

Can anyone go check this out real quick? Just plug the cable in and watch the LED as you crank the car. Does the LED stay on the whole time?

Thanks.

That's what happens when your car battery is too dead to start the engine but still has enough to run Atap. You can actually run the battery dead in Atap without the engine running; it's happened to me. Just put the charger on your battery for a few hours and you will be ok.
