Question Can a tune do this?

Can a tune change all this:

Shift points
Idle RPMs
Safety thing (left blinker must be on to start engine)
tune for exhaust (no cats or rear o2 sensors)
add power
I removed A.I.R. pump, will that need to be deleted?

If i get 3500 stall should I wait to get the tune?
What are good RPM's for the car to shift at with wide open throttle?

how much power will a good tune add to a stock car?
what's a ball park price for a tune?

I'd just start reading and searching the pcm/diagnostics forum man. You can also get on hptuners' website and learn a lot about what tuning will help you do.

From the tunes I've had, yes, you can do all those things. I'm not sure about the blinker thing, but all the rest are do-able. I would go ahead and wait to get the tune if you're planning on getting a stall within the next several months (unless you're in dier need of 15-20hp). You'll be able to tell that the car runs stronger with a clean-up tune, but it's all up to you. When I had my a4 it was shifting at around 6000 rpms (redline). Prices range from $0 (depending on the tuner and if you plan on using them again) to $100. I'd say most PCM tuners will charge in the neighborhood of $30-40.

You have a lot of reading to do. Those answers are all in the forum somewhere; they just need to be searched for.

As far as your questions, I'll help you out. A tune can do all of the above, with the exception of your blinker needing to be on to fire the car. You can tune out AIR, EGR, and rear O2s. There is power to be gained from a stock tune, but it isn't mind blowing. I won;t guess how much because it depends on the car and the tuner.

If you're getting a stall that big, I'd wait to get the tune. You won't get loads of power from it right now anyways, so again I would wait.

Shift points....I wouldn't raise them much. You don't want to spin your 4L60E too high unless you've built it for that.

Price can range. I would venture to say you'd be looking at 300ish for a mail order.

Hope that helps.

EDIT: I just looked...PCMforless is 250

Some speed shops will do like 2-3 pulls on the dyno and 2-3 tunes for 200-300 bucks

Do you live in a decent sized city? If you do you should be able to avoid the mail-order **** and save $$. Someone that really knows what they're doing won't use LS1Edit crap, they'll just hook your PCM up to their software program and not have to use the dyno.

yeah you can tune pretty much anything with ls1edit that you can with hp tuners or efilive, it's just not as elegant or user friendly as well as being more expensive.

In short yes a tune WILL do all of that stuff.
Yes, if you take your A.I.R. system out that code also needs to be removed.
DO NOT do a mail order. I've never heard anyone suggest them, and alot more power can be gained from a live tune.
But seriously, read up. These are very basic questions and i'm sure have been discussed numerous times.

Except your blinker deal. WTF?

I've never heard anything like that blinker nonsense but anyway, definitely get a real tune, no mail order stuff.

Mail-order is by no means the best way to go, but it can be used very well for what he wants to do. From his post, it doesn't seem as if he as any real engine work done, just bolt-ons. If that's the case, a mail-order tune would likely put him very close.

The more work that is done to a car, the more important a dyno tune becomes.

Well for one my car wasn't tuned on a dyno, so it's not a necessity.
Two we simply said it wasn't the best way to go, now do you claim that a mail order tune is better than a EFI Live tune?

I've had a mail order tune done by a shop in Oklahoma. Nobody had the software for my 1999 Chevy Tahoe and the truck runs great. If there was software I would've done it myself.

I would ask around on HPTuners forums, you might have someone near you that can tune your car. A lot of guys don't advertise their services, but they are around. Mail order tune is better than no tune at all, no matter what anyone else will tell you.
