I have the same noise in reverse also. Seems to occur more when I am backing up and slightly turning the wheels. Any advice would be great!

Not really, but it is very noticeable. Almost sounds like something is binding up in the brake/wheel area. Not sure if maybe it could be a bad suspension part such as tie rod or ball joint. I also have 88K miles with stock springs/shocks.

Do you guys with the popping have M6 cars? Last summer I was hearing a pop or creaking noise somewhere towards the rear of the car. Whenever I would start to let out the clutch and go backwards, I would hear it. Sometimes worse than others. I was afraid it was the posi or something. I got the car on jackstands and started going over everything with a wrench, and it wound up being loose torque arm bolts, where it mounts to the rear. I used some loc tite and tightened them up, problem solved.

I have an A4 but will check the torque arm bolts. Thanks!

No problem I also had an a4 prior to my m6. I always heard a metallic ring/pop sound when I backed up with it. I always thought it was odd, but it held 1.6 60fts no problem.
