224 degree cam and intake center line
Those of you guys with 224 degree cams: what ICL are you running, and where does your engine make peak power? (or just how high do you run it?). I guess what I'm really looking for is a relationship between IVC and the engine speed at peak power.
I just picked up an XER273 cam, it was a good deal. It is a 224 / 230 degree cam on a 114 LSA. According to the cam card, ICL is 112 when installed straight up. I was thinking of putting it in at 108 to get peak power at lower rpm. I have an A4, and I don't really care to rev it to the moon. If I could get peak power before 6000rpm I would be really happy. (though I think the LS1 heads flow well enough that a relatively short intake duration will still peak pretty high).

By advancing the cam some more you also will increase your dynamic compression ratio along with moving the valve events around. Normally Comp Cams comes with 4 degrees advance already built into them. I think you would likely to more harm than good with another 4 degrees advance.

You should make your IVC no lower than 42, that is ~6200 rpm peak
I would keep the cam as is with no advance, this way it is more intake biased from TDC and will have a nice carry after peak.

I figures for ICL and IVC are:
112 ICL / 44 IVC (ABDC)
110 ICL / 42 IVC
108 ICL / 40 IVC
The 42 degree suggestion by Predator might be pretty good. The other point I didn't mention is EVO. I don't want it to be any earlier than it has to be, but with a 230 degree exhaust lobe, that may be a bit difficult. with the 110 ICL, EVO will be 53 BBDC. (BTW, these are all 0.050 lift values I'm talking about)
