It's most likely the sensor. You can either replace it or unplug it.

Probably the sensor. I replaced mine a few years ago after having the problem you mentioned. Be prepared they are proud of the them $$

Disconnect = free. Did it on my SS when it cropped up, will do it on my Z too if needed.

Welcome to the F-body, get used to that light. :eyes: I unplugged my sesnsor rather than replacing it, they cost around $50. FYI, the sensor is plugged into the radiator about 4 inches below the cap, next to the battery. If you take the battery out you can just unplug the wire and the light will go out.

The sensor just reads the level. Shouldn't make a difference whether its just water or water/coolant. If the lights on and the level if fine, its the sensor.

actually the sensor can and does get gunked up, thats one reason why they fail ALOT....unplug the sensor and being motor minded you should be able to stay up on the fluid levels....the fluid should be really bright green

GM uses the red antifreeze.I changed mine on my 01SS and I had to use the red stuff.I guess thats what is used on alluminum blocks, thats what I've been told

Mine's orange/red. Dexcool. If it's never been flushed, it won't be green.
