HotCam going in, need a lil INFO
I will be installing my hotcam (LSA 112, 218/227 Duration, 525/525) Lift this week and I bought the following:
GM crank bolt
Ls2 timing chain
Ls6 valve springs
Ls6 oil pump, but a sponsor told me I didn't need it! is it true?
What size chromoly pushrods and what thickness?
What else do you guys recommend?
thanks

Oil pump isn't "needed", just like formula001 said, you might as well while you are in there, if it's in the budget. You also don't "need" pushrods, but it's too easy to do them during a cam swap. You would need a set of staock length pushrods. It would be a good idea to change your valve seals while in there as well, but again not a "need". You'll also need water pump gaskets and something else I'm forgetting.

It doesn't matter though. People like you will never be convinced the longer bolt is not the correct way to install a pulley.

To install the dampener, I was going to make the all thread type tool until I read about gently heating it to ease the install. So, I put the dampener in a 200 degree oven for 20 minutes. It nearly slid right on only requiring a few gentle taps with a wooden block and hammer.

the oil pump in the car now is fine, its the older ones which aren't as good. stock size pushrods are what you need. gaskets and crank bolt(just go to a gm dealership and pick up a stock one cheap)

Good luck, take your time, be patient, and if something pisses you off, take a break and go back to it... tried to line up the cam gear on my car for 2.5hrs Friday night, was frustrated and went to sleep. Woke up 630 the next morning, had it setup in 15 minutes. Just needed the break. Have fun, it's a great learning experience, and when you first fire that thing up it's completely worthwhile

I ordered my LS2 timing chain and LS6 valve springs from TSP and should be here on the 18th. Thursday I'm stoping by Speedinc and picking up the chromoly PR's,LS6 oil pump, and the water pump gaskets w/ a gm crank bolt.
I might just order the under drive pulley!!!
