Default Just bought WS6/Questions

I just bought my first modern muscle car a 2000 WS6, 6 Speed with 75,000 miles. It is completely stock and I plan to keep it that way. I was wondering if some of the experts here could answer a couple of questions for me. (also the owners manual was not with the car incase these q's sound stupid.)

1. As soon as I got the car I changed the oil and reset the trip/oil button, but the Change oil light still comes on for a few seconds every once in a while, any ideas.
2. I heard all of these cars came with traction control, but I can't find anything in the car that indicates it has it, does that mean it doesn't?
3. What is the best oil to run in this motor with 75,000 miles?
4. Any other maintenance issues I should check for at 75,000 miles?

Thanks for any advice.

1. Hold down the trip odometer button for like 5 seconds, I think that resets the oil light in these cars.

2. Just need to find the button for it, but if the button isn't there, you don't have it. My 1998 T/A does not have the TCS.

3. German Castrol 0W-30 is the best for an LS1 in my opinion, i've had it in my car for the past 13k miles since I bought it. Most people will back me up on this.

4. Just general tune up stuff: Air filter, fuel filter, plugs/wires, stuff like that.

1) To reset the oil light, turn the car to on (don't start) Put the gas pedal to the floor 3 times, turn car off, then start car, the light should stay out then.

2) Not all the cars have traction control. If there isn't a TCS Switch next to the cigarret lighter then, you don't have Traction Control.

3) You could run the Valvolene Hi milage if you want. I would just run Mobile one.

4) Wouldn't hurt to drain coolant and replace with new.

1) Oil light shouldnt come on unless oil is low, so id get that check out. Could be as simple as a fault gauge but id make sure that there isnt another issue.

2) If you have traction control there should be a TCS toggle switch on the dashboard near the radio. If you dont have that switch then I believe you dont have the traction control option.

3) Amsoil, 5w-40 (my fav at least)

4) at 75K miles change out fuel filter, spark plugs and wires, maybe a tranny and coolant flush. Thats about it though.

Good luck with the car!

I've heard this one before.

I can't believe there are still unmodified LS1 f body's out there, Congrats on the purchase. Like stated above normal maintenance plugs, wires, trans filter/fluid, air filter, fuel filter etc. I run Mobil 1 oil with 64k on it.

4) Change the tranny fluid immediately. Pay me now or pay me later.

actually, it takes at least 12 seconds to reset the oil light. you have to hold it down for a loooong time.

turn the key to the ON position but don't start the car. hold the trip/reset button for 12 seconds. the oil light will start to flash. after it's done flashing, let go.

If you can't drive safely in the rain without having traction control, you shouldn't be on the road.

1.) follow the advice above
2.) sounds like you don't have it
3.) I run Mobil 1 10w-30
4.) Flush/fill your fluids. Also change the plugs, wires, air filter( at least get a K&N).

Good luck keeping it stock...
