Jeff Gordon and Dale Earnhardt Jr., racing together as teammates -- it's a powerhouse combination of megawatt marketability that could become reality at Hendrick Motorsports as soon as Wednesday.
Earnhardt has scheduled an 11 a.m. ET news conference at his JR Motorsports shop in Mooresville, N.C., during which he will announce his plans for next season, according to a team spokesman. Sources have indicated to NASCAR.COM that those plans center on Hendrick Motorsports, the most successful organization in Nextel Cup this season, with 10 race victories in 14 starts.

Wow that will be incredible. Who is Hendricks getting rid of? It wont be Jimmie Johnson.

Well Hendricks is on fire and DEI is not. That will be the best race team in history for sure.

I don't know, but that was a great call to stay out and not pit by his crew chief seeing how the rain was coming in a few laps. :)

Yeah, Jimmie is a badass. That would be a sad day to see him leave Hendrick.

Article says Bush is on contract through 2008 season and may have asked for early release. I don't know if I buy this completely though.

Nothing is official until the announcement tomorrow morning. :)
Personally I'd rather see him go to Gibbs and race with Tony Stewart. :)

Will Jr fans now cheer for Gordon?
Makes sense. Of all the teams, Hendricks seems to have "The Car of Tomorrow" figured out.

Will Jr fans now cheer for Gordon?
thats what i was wondering, they cheer for Truex mainly because he's Jr's team mate.
will they stop boo-ing Gordon now?

Honestly I stopped booing Gordon a while ago, he's become much more humble as he's gotten older and I think his pending fatherhood has really changed him. For the same reason I couldn't stand Jeff Gordon a couple years ago is why I can't stand Kyle Busch now, his a punk ass kid that has no humility and thinks he's gods gift to racing. So, while it would be odd to see Jr. and Gordon racing as teammates, it's not nearly as weird as it would have been a couple, few years ago, for me anyway.
For what it's worth, no one can deny Jeff Gordon knows how to drive a race car, like him or not, you simply can't deny that.
Of course I'd have rather seen Jr. go to Gibbs or RCR, but what ever gets him winning is really all I care about. Hmm, makes you wonder why Jr. was so willing to drive the 5 car a while back, don't it?

It's a smart business decision, Hendrick is a wildly successful team, so you can't blame the guy for wanting to win. :)
I guess he'll drive a Red Budweiser #5?
I don't know how I feel about it, but I suppose I'll get used to it.
I still won't root for Jeff Gordon though, teammate or not.

Who knows...maybe that 8 will go to him too. NASCAR owns the numbers, and there could be some kind of deal to trade the numbers. We shall see though.

Actually the teams control the numbers, so it'd be up to DEI to let the #8 go.
I suppose also we could see a Budweiser #25 again.....

No...the teams pay NASCAR to run said number. NASCAR could step in, and mediate a deal, but its just like any other contract, you pay money to the sanctioning body to run said number for x-season or whatever. If you're not using it, NASCAR takes the number back.
Remember, originally there was no "retirement" of numbers until Sr.'s incident. Even then, the rule was supposed to be an Owner had to field a car X-times per year in order to maintain that number, else NASCAR could mandate them to run it, recall the number and then issue the "open" number to another team.
So yes, the teams pay money to NASCAR to run the number, but they can step in and do what the fans would want, IF they think it's in the best interest of the sport. That, in and of itself, is a whole other shit storm though.
And yes, I remember the days of the 25 Bud car. Of course, the likes of Ken Schrader drove that car for a short time too.

Hmm, ok you're right about the numbers. My bad. :)
Ken Schrader and Ricky Craven both had terms of driving the #25 Budwieser car I believe. :)

Yeah, couldn't remember his [Craven's] name.
And sall good...not easy to remember. Apparently (from my resident NASCAR geek), Hendrick is working on a deal to trade No. 5 for No. 8 (which will undoubtedly have some money to grease the bearings).

I don't know...a little financial consideration for "just a number" to a team that it won't mean a hell of a lot to. Unless Teressa wants to be an absolute bitch out of spite (which could very well happen), then my guess is this will happen.

A king's ransom to be more precise, who's willing to pay for it? Hendrick or Junior?
Before Jr had the #8 the only other Earnhardt to use it was his grandfather Ralph Earnhardt. I believe Sr used #8 a few times (before the #3) when he ran the Busch Series on occassion. Thus it has special meaning to DEI, thus I can't see them willing to sell it to Hendrick.
Anyhow Jr will be under the gun for the next five years to produce a championship as he'll now have the best equipment and resources available. He doesn't have anymore excuses to fall back on should he fail - this would be perceived by many that he was the problem, not DEI prior to this move.

I think that number would have much more meaning to the Earnhardt family over the Earnhardt company. Just my opinion of course.
