Default WOT ticking noise

My car has started to make this noise at around 4500+ rpms at wot while it is under a load(while driving) does not do it in neutral. It sounds like detonation but not sure cause I can here it over the LM1 catback(with stock mainfolds & y-pipe) and I've personally never heard detonation that loud. What do you guys think?? It was doing it before and after a recent plug change. If it is detination would the next step be changing the wires?? the car is an 2002 with 26,000 miles.

thanks

Do you have oil in your intake? Maybe run some seafoam through the intake. Also, maybe fuel injector cleaner and a new fuel filter.

Do you have a buddy with HPtuners? You can take a run a log and see if you get any knock retard.

I have something similar going on; I have seafoamed the car and it does it a lot less, but it did it the other day under load at WOT. I am thinking I did not seafoam the intake manifold enough so I will be doing it again.

Its very likely ping. What plugs did you put in? Did you go too hot a heat range?

I put the TR55's in gapped about .055. But I think it did it before the new plugs as well. But also when I changed the plugs I ended up yanking on some of the wires on the passenger side cause I could could not get them off by just pulling on the boots.
So maybey I trashed a plug wire or two? What would be a good plug wire( I would prefer to buy locally ie Napa, Autozone, Advanced, O'Rielys etc.)

When you mean oil in the intake can I just take off the TB and feel inside for oil?

The fuel filter has less than 1000 miles on it and I usually run shell or BP gas.

I'm the first owner and it's never done this until I pulled it out of storage this year. Also the car does not get driven much. In the last couple of years it's lucky to see 3,000 miles per year.

In addtion I'm going to get some MAF cleaner today. I was running a k&N filter before but when I cleaned it I think I might of over oiled it. I have since switched to a paper filter last fall.

Plugs should be okay. MAF cleaner is a good idea. Check for oil by feeling behind the throttle body blade. No need to pull the intake. I dont think youd run lean or ping if you killed a wire. Youd get a misfire and dump fuel through that cylinder.

Could it be a small exhaust leak?

Check for exhaust leaks too, they can sound a lot like pinging/tapping.

Edit : Damn, beat me to it.
