Help before I buy this car....! Hey guys, I'm considering buying a 98 SS with 94k miles and new clutch. There is an issue with the trans though...when he shifts to first at any time it sort of grinds...but still goes in. This happens if he's at a light stopped...or downshifting slowing down. I guess it doesn't do it in any other gear though just first.
It obviously isn't the clutch and couldn't imagine it being the trans if all the other gears work great...? Any ideas....thanks.

It could still be the trans. Trans issues can affect just one gear. It almost sounds like a hydraulics issue but I'm considering otherwise if it grinds at every shift into 1st gear... maybe a bad syncro from a poor driver? I've read a lot of threads on here and very few are complaints about issue with 1st gear.
