Brutal LS1

Are the rubber pieces that go on top of the shock with the studs side specific? The reason I ask is because when the holes line up with the upper control arm the arm and ball joint face in towards the car instead of outwards. I know this sounds confusing, but I'm thinking if the top rubber mounts are swapped that everything will line up perfectly. I've even put the shock in a vice and twisted it and no matter what I can't get the studs to go in the holes closest to the front of the car. PLEASE HELP!
