I have a 1996 Formula and My shift boot clips broke about 2 years ago. As anyone who has searched knows they know longer make this peace anywhere. My question is "does anyone know if a 98-02 6 speed console will fit my car without any modifications? I am willing to buy a whole new console. I hate not having a boot. It is finally pissing me off enough to do something about it.

are you sure? I bought one from the dealer last year. Mine broke as well and I called my buddy who works for a chevy dealer and he ordered it for me.

I need the plastic piece that is attached to the boot. Its the piece that snaps into the upper console and for a 1996 they said that they dont make it.

There used to be someone on here that made a new snap in piece that was made out of aluminum or stainless (cant remember) to hold on the boot. He charged like $18 and made them when ordered. try searching here for that.

If you still have the broken piece, you might try looking for the seven-digit GM part number somewhere on it. With that, you can go online and price it from the many discount gm parts places.

That is the way to go. I bought some wire and had my wife bend it for me like the one you mentioned. She used to bend arch wires for an orthodontist, kind of handy to have around. I think GM wanted $18 for their cheesy plastic one. I bought steel wire for $5, and still have about 48' left.
