I've owned 2001, 2002, and now the 2006 Z06. Never a requirement to put the tranny in reverse as part of shut-down. I generally keep mine in a forward gear when parked.

I put mine in reverse then the E-brake. Ive heard to pull the brake first and let it stop then put it in gear so it takes some pressure off the gears, but IDK if thats a big deal. I just put mine in reverse all the time because now its a habbit.

When i turn off the car i hear a sound coming out from the flywheel area so i alwes press the cluch pedal and then i turn off the car, this way i cant hear any noise !
