Only the 2005 model year car required the car in reverse to properly shut down the various computers in the car. Because some owners forgot to do this, drained the battery, and complained loudly, GM fixed the issue on the 2006 cars.

I assume this carried over to the export models you've seen.

For your C5, you can shut the motor down in any gear.

seriously? my dealer told me to always put it in reverse when parked. so it's not necessary in 06 or 07 models at all?

That was a 2005-only thing.

I've owned 2001, 2002, and now the 2006 Z06. Never a requirement to put the tranny in reverse as part of shut-down. I generally keep mine in a forward gear when parked.

I put mine in reverse then the E-brake. Ive heard to pull the brake first and let it stop then put it in gear so it takes some pressure off the gears, but IDK if thats a big deal. I just put mine in reverse all the time because now its a habbit.
