Default CME Dual Tips

I was wondering what people would pay for something very similar to the original CME Dual Tips? I found someone that is willing to reproduce them and it looks like it may work at a reasonable price if we get at least 20-30 committed people. The time for the production of the mold is about 2 months and 4 weeks lead time for the pieces. It is a company with many years of experience and the owner gave me a tour of their shop. It's a pretty big operation and he treated me just like I had $1 million in my hand.

There in lies the problem. I don't have that money. The mold is the most expensive part of the reproduction process and he says it is going to cost $3-4k for the mold. So before I venture out trying to get money from my dad and friends, is anyone wanting to get CME Dual tips at say $250-300 shipped and who would commit with a $100-$150 refundable deposit?

These will be as close as possible to being like the original CME Dual tips but may be 3" inlet.

As much as I like CME I don't see the value in $250-$300 for 2 exhaust tips.

For tips only I would pay $150. That would still require me to buy the valence, get it painted, and get it molded. I dunno it's just hard for me to drop $1000 to get my car's exhaust changed up when the car itself isn't worth much anymore.

From the responses I'm getting, I don't think I'm going to have the shop reproduce the tips. If I didn't have the tips I would get the ones on ebay. I had them before and I liked them.

They are going on ebay for between 150-200 all day long. Good quality pieces in either 3'' or 2 1/2. So Id just get those and save some stress.

Just do what I was going to do (and probably still will do if your buddy gets the valances made) and have it made by an exhaust shop...

Get a couple of 3" mandrel bent 90* elbows and cut/weld them into the pieces, like this:

1) Cut the inside side off...

2) Move it over to judge final positioning...

3) Cut the inside part of the bend out...

4) Weld it into place and add a flat piece of metal on each side...

5) Grind and polish welds...

6) Polish the entire piece or have it ceramic coated...

Here's my crappy rendering:

This will be MAYBE $40 worth of materials and definetly no more than $60 at a shop. Find a shop who mandrel bends their own pieces and it will be cheaper. For definetly less than $100 you will have tips like the ones on ebay (which, IMHO, were 100x's better than the cast crap that always broke that SLP produced)

Thanks for that beautiful rendering DEMONDBIRD . I agree about the ebay CME tips and their quality. The only thing that is better about the SLP CME tips is the lip. The SLP tips are heavier. I was just trying to see if there was enough interest to produce some that are silmilar to the SLP tips.

The valance will be coming in a couple of weeks.

You could make the tips I mentioned and have the lips rolled... I'm biased because I never was obsessed with the CME's but responded to the post and am interested in one for my car because my Spintech muffler is so HUGE I think the valance would help hide it a little better

I also LOVE SIK02SS's car!
