Default z06 Abuse

Hey guys i just have a simple question. I'm planning on getting a z06. Its going to be a car i'm rough on everytime i drive it. Not full throttle at every stop light but will be playing alot in it. Has anyone had any problems out of theirs due to daily typical male abuse ??? I'm new to the forum thing so sorry if this is a incorrect place to post.

Most of us here drive our cars pretty hard on occasion. I know I do. Mine holds up just fine, along with the majority of the other f-bodies, and I'm sure the Vettes as well.

As far as your being new, remember that searches go a long way here (although they don't always work die to the server). This is one of the topics that has been discussed numerous times and you can find many threads just like this in the archives.

Welcome, and enjoy the car if you get one.

I'm 18 and well i drive my Z sometimes like an 18 y/o with a corvette would. But i am causious about my surroundings. I dont street race or weave in and out of traffic and stupid **** like that cause i respect people and the road is not a race track. And on the weekends my dad and i take the vettes out onto the back roads and give them a good beating. And guess what, the vette runs perfect. But i do take care of it, change the oil about every 2-2.5K miles and keep it in good working condition, give it the best gas, etc. Probably should change the clutch fluid someday.

Lastly the Z06 was made to be beat on.

A Z06 is the wrong car for anyone lacking respect for the power and the quickness with which it can get you into trouble. Plenty of Z06s have been totaled through clear driver error. Gotta be respectful and show good judgment to stay out of trouble with this car.

Like anything that's powerful, it can be broken by a driver making basic technique errors. The rear axles, differentials and transmissions show the most scars.

On the other hand, if you learn how to handle the car and develop driving skill that matches the power-level, then you can go breakage-free for a long time. I had 60K street-miles and 500 passes without a chargeable accident or breaking anything. You can do the same; but it takes commitment and self-restraint.

I bought mine when i was 27, im now 30, I dont daily drive it, but I do take it to a road course a couple times a year, and drag race it a couple times a year, what was mentioned above about wheel hop is true, and change your clutch often as well. All will be good

I really don't see how people wreck cars that make less than 600 hp. I guess like you said you have to respect the car.

trust funds. or a good work ethic and some determination can go a long way.

part time job / local in state tuition. put in 30 hours a week at a nice respectable place of employment and you can have some nice toys

Ok, here's what no one has told you that's important. The 10 bolt stock rear is crap. It's good for most non-drag applications. But digging the tires and launching will break it under stock hp. You are less likely to do it if you have the auto, but the M6 is break it and fast too if you have the drill mod. You either want to reinforce that **** or swap it. I'm not too enlightened about Vette rear swaps, but look at the gears and axle threads and you'll get some good info.

WTF are you talking about? I'd really like to see a Z with a 10 bolt in it. The last Corvette to have a solid axle was built in the 1960s.

I don't have a Z06, but I do have a C5 FRC. I beat the tar out of it pretty regularly and no major failures. The stock clutch has given me some trouble though. It's been known to slip after a hard shift sometimes. I think the spec 3+ will take care of that.

ive beaten the crap out my car on the regular. i dont daily drive it but when im in it, she always gets a few runs in.... lately ive shot the nitrous through her too. holds up great. my old 97 z28 lasted a long way too, until i had a fight with a light pole and lost, my own fault. gm did a good job when they built these vehicles.

I have a 2002 Z06, has about 37,000 miles on it. I do some spirited 2-3-4 gear stuff but don't try to get 1.7 60 ft times off every stop light. I also don't power shift the car. I have had wheel hop twice and both times I had the steering wheel turned a little bit as I was getting on it after I had just changed lanes.

I might sell mine for $28,500 FIRM right now since I think I am going to get a four door this fall. It's red with black interior, all stock.

I daily drive mine in summer, and it's a total blast. I've contemplated getting a C6Z, but I can't see really needing the extra power for the kind of inner city driving I always do.

You'll be fine as long as you take care of it as well. Change your oil and other fluids when needed and it will last a long time.
