Default My new Alpine SPS-10C2's - Very Disappointed

I thought the SPS-10C2's were supposed to sound better than the stock hatch speakers. I installed one new speaker on the right side and tested it out with the stock speaker still in the left. I moved the balance over to the right and fade it to the rear and turned the volume up and then I moved the balance over to the left where the stock speaker is. The alpine doesn't seem to handle the bass as well as the stock speaker! Is this right? I tried switching the wires and it sounds the same either way.
Could the fact that I have an aftermarket Alpine HU make a difference? I had such high hopes for these little 4" speakers.

Well you probably don't want to throw a lot of bass at any 4" driver, since they're not made for that. How are the mids/highs?

The mids and highs are good but they are held back by the bass. Somebody told me that the hatch speakers were spit wired with the sail panel subs. Has anyone tried to take the bass away from the hatch speakers? Single wire them, or is this not a good idea?
The only way I can see fixing the problem now is to fade the sound to the front a couple notches and let my alpines in the doors handle more of the bass, but then I lose the good surround sound.

Well I know in the original factory set-up the 6.5" sail panel speakers (quasi-subs) get only low range frequencies, and I *think* the smaller hatch speakers might be crossed-over at higher freqs only (makes sense since they're small drivers, and won't do well with bass, but you should search in case I'm mistaken).

4" are basically useless for bass. You'd need a high (for the size) Xmax driver like the CSS WR125s to get anything.

Will bass blockers will help? I found some PAC BB3's for $3.63 a piece. I read the BB3 are small speakers like my 4"ers.
0-800hz and handles up to 50 watts.
