Question Best radar detector...

So which one is the best guys? I've read a few threads about both of these... I know the new Escort 9500i just came out and i'm sure it's really good... but it's also $450

For those of you with experience between these two, what were the pro's and con's?

If there's any other good radar detectors out there feel free to post em up...

I just moved to Phoenix, AZ and between the overwhelming law enforcement, red light camera's, and worst of all Speeding Camera's.... I'm friggin scared to drive around...

I'm kinda one of those rebel drivers that'll never learn I guess you could say... i'm 25 and have 18 tickets under my belt so far... but the best thing is I have a clean record and good driving discounts through my insurance

i dont own a radar detector i bought one of those lazer jammers so when they shoot you an alarm goes off slow down and shut off the jammer so they can read you. if it is on they cannt get a reading on your speed. Jammers are expensive but i think worth it

Picked up a 9500i from DinoZ on here and it is worth every penny. The GPS feature that shows you your speed and you can lock in false alerts from grocery store motion sensors.

Might pick up a V1 to try but not decided on that yet, I like the constant speed displayed on the detector, and has a LONG range on it.

you can get an add on to your radar detector that will "absorb" the laser tho, so when they shoot your car they don't get a reading... again only for the laser not for radar.. and its legal in most states.

i have a escort pasport 8500 x50 and its paid for itself time and time again.

as far as the camera's go, there is stuff you buy and paint on your plate that will not allow the camera's to get your plate number... you may wanna look into that as well.

in regards to radar detectors read this!!!

first off as stated above, this is a great source for info... http://www.radarbusters.com/

Secondly, license plate spray and covers that block out the letters from being read by cameras is crap. Mythbusters did an episode testing them out and each concept failed. The show top gear proved you could beat a speed camera but the car would have to be at 180mph+

http://kwc.org/mythbusters/2007/03/e...g_patches.html

Now regarding radar detectors, you have escort and valentine listed in the poll. Do not forget about Beltronics. Beltronics is the maker of Escort, they are the same company.

The vector series and professional series are great models by beltronics also cheaper and perform great!!!

Also when using a radar detector, do fall into a false sense of security assuming your detector will catch everything. Radar detectors only work if other cars around you are being shot by the cop. If your the only car on the road, your radar detector is useless.

The topic has been beat to death, do a search in the Stereo & Electronics section and you will see plenty of responses. I got a V1 because of the arrows and i dont wanna have to spend $400 a year getting a new radar detector when i can just send mine back with a small fee and get it upgraded . Then again the MPH thing does seem pretty badass...

Everyone who owns a V1 say its the best. Obviously they really like em. Plus you can send it back to the company to get update.

With laser being so prevalent now days a detector is almost useless. Some sort of countermeasure is the best bet for laser speed guns. That being said I have had a V1 for many years and nothing comes close to its range and their customer service.

The spray stuff everyone is talking about. Basically what it does is increase the reflectiveness of your licence plate.

as for radar jammers, their is not one on the market that ACTUALLY works. some lazer jammers work, but only the expensive/really good ones. That and any type of jammer is illeagal in all 50 states.

Everyone says the V1 is the best although I have one a lot cheaper than that one and the only time Ive had a ticket was when I was the only one on the road. Just make sure to get one that all the major bands of Radar.
