I've given them 2 different chances at buying something from me.
First, an '02 V-6 Camaro vert and Second, an 02' F-150 supercrew, and niether time did they come even close to the blue book value! I've had friends that have gotten good buys from them, but they suck when outright buying something from ya!

They will offer you less then Trade-In value and claim that they give you what they would pay at an auction for the same vehicle.
We took our Truck there that had a $31xxx MSRP 2 years ago with only 25,000 miles and they offered me $16k.

I work there, Sometimes we pay good money for t/a and camaros.
I say give it a shot and see what happends.
Also they pay more for STOCK cars. If a car has any mods done to it, they have to buy the factory stuff and put it on the car so they subtract what they think all of the stuff is going to cost from the bluebook and that is your offer, If it has suspension or internal engine mods, straight to wholesale.

I have bought 2 vehicles from Carmax and sold 3 vehicles to them. 2 out of the 3 were bought from Carmax. I sold to Carmax the cleanest 2002 Dodge Durango around and they gave me more than Texas Motors Ford would give me. With Carmax, it is all about demand. You will not be obligated to sell the car to them if you want to take it up there to see what they will offer you. It's no big deal to do it.

Might as well check into it. One of my friends brough an 03 4door F150 there and another brought his 06 Charger up there. Neither have traded their cars into them but my friend was offered 14k for the f150 and my other friend was offered 22k for his 03 charger(which I thought was pretty good). But I agree. Its all with supply and demand. By the way. I didnt even know that they took modded Cars. My friend tried to take his lifted 00-01? Z71 up there and they wouldnt even look at it.

Another side note, I also solde them a 96 Mustang GT that just had the nitrous kit stripped from it the day I sold it to them! It had an underdrive pulley and a cat'd Bassani x-pipe. It still ran good though. They gave me 6K in 2004.

I tried to sell them an Audi A4 one time and they made me laugh when they told me how much they would give me. It's worth a shot though. You never know what will happen. It doesn't take that long for them to give you a low ball offer.

Had an outstanding experience with Carmax San Antonio. After the drunk chick totalled my '96 I waited a week and a half before the f-body I'd been looking for was traded in in San Antonio. I called the store and asked if it was still on the lot (the car had just been posted to the Carmax website that day) and the sales person said yes, it had just been put out for sale. I told him my situation, in Houston, pre-approved loan, etc...and he said it wouldn't be a problem, they'd stay open passed closing time for me to drive out there. Sure enough, car was detailed, full tank of gas, paperwork ready. We got there at 10pm and enough people had stayed to ensure delivery of my '02 Z28. The Z was completely untouched, even the windows weren't tinted. Nothing but good things to say about Carmax.

What do ya think they would pay for an '03 Mercedes-Benz C230 Kompressor with 72K miles on it? completely stock. blue book is around 15K, and only looking to get 11-11,500 for it.
