Default Title Question - New York to Texas

Hey there. I bought another 1980 Trans Am to replace my rusted one. Anyway, my idiot brother stored the car for me up in Buffalo and handled the transactions. He finally mailed the paperwork and the title wasn't signed by the previous owner on the back. What can I do?? Does it have to be signed by the owner of record in order to transfer ownership to me? Does anybody know how tough Texas is for transferring out of state titles? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

Brian

i'm currently transferring my vehicle title(from my parents in louisiana) to myself, so i'm going through the same thing.

the back of the title definately needs to be signed, or you could mail them a bill of sale and have them sign and return it. The tax collectors office told me that is acceptable.

Do you think that the Paypal receipt is acceptable as bill-of-sale? Or, do they need a signature from the previous owner?

A receipt is a receipt. They should take it. Also yes the title does need to be signed in order to get a new title.

has to be inspected first.

then you take the inspection certification and the out of state inspection paper that they give you...and you go to the tax collectors office and fill out the proper forms etc.

http://www.dot.state.tx.us/services/...idents_reg.htm

that site should cover it all.
