Default SS functional hood

i just read on another thread about how a guy said all ss hoods are functional. i'm a little concerned cause i've looked at my hood and all it seems to be is a just appearance mod. the vent is just there and leads to nothing. or is it hidden somewhere to where i can;t see or noticed. but my ss is real cause i looked a the codes inside of the door and it has the code. so are some ss hoods functional, and others aren't? please let me know thanks .

the scoop is functional

it goes from the middle where the scoop is, around to the front where the lid is.

noticed it lines up with the bottom of the lid.

i bet if you drove a Z28 you wouldnt notice a difference. FRA/FTRA/SSRA/BGRA mod > stock SS/WS6 hoods.

true but i was just seeing if it actually worked, i know that it doesn't add much power at all.

you can do some little intricate things to it to make it "more" functional, but its really more work than its worth. you can take some weather stripping and seal it to the air box, cut out the little "bars" on the outlet of the hood before the air box....etc

I had thought all true SS's came with functional hoods. Some aftermarket "SS" hoods are appearance only.

When I had my 94, I thought about putting an aftermarket on, a few had a solid "opening" that would require cutting to allow airflow int the engine compartment.

Principles of fluid dynamics dictate that any pressurization of fluids by induction into a cone or through a frustum at speed is negligable at any speeds slower than that of sound. These hoods are cold air intakes at best, nothing more.

Yeah yeah, unfortunately, air is a fluid.

Definition accoring to the american heritage dictionary:

fluid - A continuous, amorphous substance whose molecules move freely past one another and that has the tendency to assume the shape of its container; a liquid or gas.

Liquids and gasses both behave predictably according to established mathematical models.
