Angry Thieves!!!

Someone broke into my truck today while I was at work. Busted the dash up really bad and stole my headunit. They tried to get my amp and subs but they couldn't get the box out from behind the seat all the way. They almost had it out but it took long enough for a few coworkers and neighbors to see and call it in. They tore the seat a little trying to get the box out. The cop on duty caught them in the act. They got in their car and ran from the cops and the cops had to let them go. Dallas has a no chase policy for crimes that are not a violent offence (i.e.: no weapon used during the crime). Sad part is the patrol car pulled up right behind them as they got down the street.

Same basic thing happened to me in Corpus Christi! They stole my head unit, speakers, tools from behind the seat, cd's and broke my steering column.... they almost had my entire truck...

I don't know exactly what the policy says. The cop gave me the just of it though. The patrol car came by and told me they followed the guys and turned their lights and sirens on but he kept going of course and they followed for a bit but since he wouldn't stop they weren't allowed to follow. They weren't happey about it either.

At least the alarm did its job and got some attention drawn. When I went outside both doors were open and the sub box was resting on the back of the seats. The box is real heavy and hard to get out from behind the seat.

They went straight for the stereo equipment they didn't touch anything else in the truck. They didn't even look through it.

There were 2 other times that someone tried to break into the truck. The 1st time they broke the door handle and lock but didn't get in. A few weeks later they tried to pry under the door handle and I guess they got scared off because there was very very little damage. This time it was a clean entry, they used a screwdriver on the door lock and didn't hardly mess up the handle or the lock.

Damn Chris that sucks. How much do you think all that was worth? Will your insurance cover it?

The headunit was around $400 with my discount several years ago. Alpine doesn't make anything like the headunit I had anymore. The amp and subs was where the real money was at but they didn't get it. The dash will be expensive but I think insurance will cover the dash and I hope they cover the stereo or at least part of it.

ya, that law is jacked up. they can't chase people that commit a crime. (too many innocents killed during chases) luckily tho, here in tx, you can carry a gun and take care of those bastards yourself. just don't shoot em in the back and make sure they have something in their hands (you can say it looked like a weapon). either way, sorry to hear bro. i ******* hate thieves!!

that is absurd. tell the cops they have to pay for your **** since they just let them get away.

or... just break into the cops car, steal a bunch of their **** and run away shouting 'remember, you can't get me... neener neener neener'

makes me appreciate having a secured parking lot at work while my car sits for 8-12 hours a day. sorry to hear about this though i had it happen to my f150 once. alot of late model trucks are very easy to break into because of the plastic trim around the door handle.
