Here is a image of the connector. there is more than one wire that says serial data...
PPL Serial Data Link (Class 2) where does this go
BLK Ground
Black/White ECM Ground Which ground hooks up from ECM here
Tan Serial Data Signal (UART) where does this hook up
DK GRN Diagnostic Signal (E & C) where does this hook up
Org Fused Battery Feed
PPL Serial Data Link (Class 2) where does this go
BLK Ground
Black/White ECM Ground Which ground hooks up from ECM here
Tan Serial Data Signal (UART) where does this hook up
DK GRN Diagnostic Signal (E & C) where does this hook up

I'd ignore the picture you have. Use the info from the sticky. The picture he posted (from the sticky) is the same one I used, and it worked like a champ. Unless of course you don't have the purple and other wires referenced in that one. The pinout is the same. Most ALDL connectors like the one you can buy from Speartech for ~$20 come with only those four pins tapped.
what picture? only picture I see is the one I posted. someone post the pins on here for the picture you're talking about from the sticky

Scroll about 60% of the way through the post and there is a picture of the ALDL connector. If there is not, it might show up as an attachment at the end of the post. Either way, you should be able to see it, and all of the diagnostic OBDII wiring information for your swap is listed in that post I just linked.

yes.
the serial data line delivers the data. all you need is power and ground along with that, and you can scan till your heart is content. i believe LS1edit also uses the OBDII port, so i suppose you could also use it with it as well.
i don't know where you got your previous picture, but it does not appear to apply to any GenIII-powered vehicles that i've ever seen in my hunting for answers.
there is also an additional lead for the 'check engine' light. you just need to attache that to one side of a light bulb and ground the other side, if i understand correctly. i didn't hook mine up yet, i'm in the process of rewiring my vehicle

blu 58 is the serial data line from the PCM, hook this up to pin#2 of your DLC port..

DK GRN Diagnostic Signal (E & C) are you keeping the stock 99 truck radio and climate control head unit? probley not, so you can delete this wire too....
