I went with PaceSetter Headers, ORY, and Magnaflow can back.
Loved it.
However, I now have a H/C swap and it is stupid ungodly loud ... making re-consider whether I should of went with cats or not ...

IMHO...
Pros:
- More refined sound
- Less odor
Cons:
- less ground clearance
- extra weight
- less exhaust flow (and less HP)
- they still won't pass a visual inspection in many states because the cats will have been moved farther downstream.
Determine what the laws are in your area, and if you care, then pick your priorities. The Magnaflow 59929 is a very high flowing metallic cat you can get for $89/ea at one of the board sponsors...EAD, maybe? Maybe buy a pair of those and get a custom y-pipe.

I have stock manifolds with gutted cats, SLP y-pipe, and Hooker catback on my WS6 and it has zero rasp. It is not real loud at warm idle, but it tones up at 1800 RPM +. It sounds very mean at higher RPM's...sounded sweet on the dyno. I am almost afraid of what it will sound like when I get my Pacesetter LT's , ORY, and cam installed which are sitting in the garage waiting for installation. I'm not sure which I would go with yet...I will let you know as soon as I get mine installed.

I have longtubes zero cats cutout and stock muffler and I don't have any rasp and it sounds great. It is however a bit loud, but sounds sweet. The only time it sounds a little raspy is when I start out in 2nd gear and go directly into 6th, which then places my engine at 1000 RPM's and is the slightest bit raspy but this is of courrse because of the low RPM and low speed and by 1200 RPMs its gone.
I miss having cats because I love the cat smell and once I get a big cam I'm sure the fumes and loudre tone will be unreasonable for me, so to the OP, It also depends on what your future modes will be. If you plan on a cam and very open Catback exhaust, I would chose cats.

I personally think that the catted sound is better but its all opinion. Some people like the sound of no cats and Slp Loudmouth. I think its too raspy but its all in what you like I believe that the hooker exhaust is one of the smoothest sounding exhausts you will find. I like the hooker it sounds great. My American racing headers and Catted Y are going on soon so I will let you know how it sounds.
