Default LS1 Mods--whats next?

Ok so here it goes, My brother has a 98 Trans Am. For the past 2 months we've added quite a bit to it. And now we're wondering what else we can do? This is the list of things we've added to the car....

~WS6 Ram Air Hood, K&N CAI Kit, Granatelli MAF, Velocity Stack, MSD Tune-up kit(Coils,Wires,And NGK TR55 Plugs), Derale Deep Trans. Pan and Trans. Cooler, LS1 Aluminum Driveshaft, 2 1/2" ORY, 3" SLP Loudmouth Catback, 160* Thermostat, Royal purple coolant additive, Mobil 1 Fully synthetic Oil, New Pads and Rotors, SLP UD Crank Pulley and OD Alt. Pulley,

*Next is the Fast 90mm TB and Fast Lsx Intake Manifold, as well as 17x9(front) and 17x11(rear) TT II's with 275/40/17 (front) and 315/40/17 (rear), and a tune from PCMFORLESS, and a 3.42 rear end from a 6 speed LS1 TA or Z28. And a Vigilante Stall Headers are out of the question for now b/c we're installing them next year when he rebuilds the motor... Any other oppinions would help.... Thanx

Headers/Nitrous/9" to hold power. Also why can't you use headers on the motor after its rebuilt,i don't get it. Good luck with the modding.

Sorry I mean We're not putting headers on until after he rebuilds the engine.... Just one of those things he's had bad experiences with... (they're a pain in the a$$ to install and He wants to do it all at the same time Rebuild Engine, Trans, And Replace Rear End) all at 1 time... Sorry for the confusion

big cam, definetly gonna need to beef up the back, and don't forget those suspension mods. Those are very important on our f-bodies the more we mod'em, have you thought about FI yetr, do you have a certain HP goal or ET goal. Must be kicking youself in the head for that Granatelli MAF.

Headers on an LS1 are not as bad as an LT1.
Fast 90/90
LT's
230ish /600ish cam
CNC heads
3:73's
3600 stall
DR's
200 shot

That should be pretty good

Yeah the Granatelli was a waste of money but at least he can say he has it, you know...I guess that would be 1 way of justifying it.. but note to self MAFs are a waste of $ to those who are wanting one-DON'T bother. We should've got the ported ends and been done with it. And as far as HP He wants around 500Hp give or take a little.... And we plan on doing the susp. as well as rear end and Trans. after the Engine Rebuild. We'll see how long it takes to break some stuff, It's always fun blowing up stock parts- gives you a reason to upgrade huh.

sounds like some good stuff so far..i'd say a nice set of headers, and an ls6 intake manifold, and a nice cam would be a good choice of next mods. Unless you wanna go suspension route and work on keeping the car planted (forward and in the corners).

btw, did i miss something....but why did you have to put an ls1 aluminum driveshaft on a 98 trans am?

Yep thats what we had to do... All 98+ Trans Ams came with the steel driveshaft if the car had 2.73 rear axle gears. So we bought one from a buddy of mine and we put it in. Thats some BS if you ask me... I don't understand the whole concept of putting an aluminum D S in some and not the rest. I'm sure it had to be because the 2.73 gears are so slow off the line.... But who knows! Oh and sorry, I can't buy you any parts man, Need all the money we can get for this build

I would sell the Granatelli MAF, MSD coils and velocity stack and put the money towards headers. You won't need a FAST 90/90 until after you do the heads/cam. You won't really need a tune either, at least until after headers or cam etc...

yeah not to put you down but IMO slp headers are one of the biggest wastes of money they are MUCH too expensive for their quality. If your looking to spend the big bucks go with something that has a reason to be that expensive or just go with pacesetters who's quality for price beats slps *** in that catagory

hello, super chev mag ran an article 2 yrs back on ls1 do's and donts. the first mod they recommended was sub frame connectors. after that cold air intake , then catback. basically after that headers long tube, gears A4 3:73's, M6 4:10's. short shifter stick, stall for autos, drag radials. just my 2 cents, i haven't done the last 3. (i recommend SLP drive shaft safety loop!).

Performance-wise SLP headers are fine.. they're longtubes. It's the ground clearance that's an issue with them. They have the least of any long tube header I've seen. When I go to stainless and duals, I'm a big fan of the QTP's.
