Where should stock idle be on a 2000 Z28??
I'm just curious, my car runs freakin great and nothing is giving me problems, but it idles at 500rpm on the dot. Is that normal? I thought I should be just shy of 1000. It doesn't even idle rough, it's dead level at 500.
I figure if it ain't broke why fix it, but figured I'd ask around.

In gear, foot on the brake and warm, with stock tune - mine showed idle quickly changing from 525-585 on a scanner. Tach said just over 500. Park/neutral idle is higher (645-676) on a scanner. I think your's is fine.

Forget what your factory tach shows. And forget what other people tell you that their factory tach shows. The factory tachs are usually off by 100-200rpm at idle. Only a scanner or aftermarket tach will give you the correct idle speed.
Here are the factory presets for ALL years of LS1 F-bodies ('98-'02):
A4 trans, hot idle: 650rpm in park/neutral and 550rpm in gear
M6 trans, hot idle: 800rpm
Every single '98-'02 LS1 F-body idles at the above rpms unless there is something wrong with the car, or you have done custom tuning or made physical changes to the TB resulting in a higher/lower idle speed.
Keep in mind that no engine will idle at *exactly* the preset rpm, so you'll usually see some variance of +/- 25-50rpm from the preset speed (if viewed on a scanner).

ya when we got our car, i saw it idleing at a tad over 500 or 500 on the dot in Drive, i thought it was strange but ya its normal.
Im used to seeing at least 600-700rpm in Drive.
Yes going off the factory tach.
