2001 ls1 into a 1998 car help!!!!
my car was a v6
i swapped in a 1998 ls1. my car was a 1998 v6
My motor is gone and now I want to put in a 2001 ls1. I know I can hook my harness to it and it will work fine. I think I want to use the 2001 harness and computer... Most people say I can’t because of the dash harness
I need to know what’s different i have a whole car and I don’t think I want to switch dash boards..... What won’t work? Are the connections different?
Is it that gauge cluster wont work?

You would need to change the engine/trans harness, computer, dash harness, and dash cluster to make it work. The dash cluster is different, some of the 99+ gauges get a serial data signal from the PCM instead of a signal directly from the sender on the engine. You could also rewire the 01 underhood harness, use the senders from your 98 motor, reprogram the tach output and be able to use the newer engine and PCM without having to change the cluster and dash harness.
