So I was wondering how many of You guys have loud as hell cars, and drive through Your neighborhood, maybe late at night sometimes? Or early in the morning? If You ever have any complaints from the people living around You?
What do You do? Loud as hell meaning... True dual, huge cam, big stall...

2am i come home from the G2G around here on friday nights and redline 1st then engine brake. no one cares around here.

i ran open LTs at 3:45am or something around there after installing them and revved to 6000 once warmed.

im in a neighborhood full of old people or stuck up military dicks, I try to be as loud as possible as late as possible. they always bitch about something so I do them a favor and give them something to complain about. If they dont like my exhaust then to damn bad, I dont like their loud woogie boogie rap boomnig at 4am either

Act like an adult and idle it late at night, after a while you got enough shit to worry about, why add crap to that list. Also not getting along with neighbors can make your life really shitty in a hurry. Theres an ass hole with a new GT in my apartment complex, has a magnaflow, always ripping on it. I don't wanna hear that shit when I'm studying or trying to sleep so I do my neighbors at my parents house the same courtesy.

One of our project cars is beyond loud (running Kooks LTs, no cats, our custom true duals with 14" cans and dumped). Out of respect for the neighborhood I try not to drive it at night. However we rarely drive that particular car as it houses all our prototypes (pushes about 900hp). When I was younger I used to not give a damn what others thought. In fact I still love driving the highway or city streets with insanely loud and mean sounding cars...but I sing to a different tune in neighborhoods. People don't need me to rattle their home windows. And now understanding what it's like having babies...I can appreciate the fact when they're asleep...the last thing I need to do is wake them up with a monster roar of my car.

Tell them when they are the most responsible person in the neighborhood then they can care. I don't remember you showing up for stream clean last meeting. Your not the damn proctor of this neighborhood and if you aren't going to pull your weight around get the hell out of here.

I had an electric cutout on my car... heading home was usually the only time I closed it. I had good neighbors so I tried to be nice about it.

Now the car is a dedicated track car so it's not an issue. :drive:

My DD truck is loud, not that loud but its louder than the TA's SLP LM, and I have no problems anywhere when driving it. When people say it's too loud or it gives them headaches (neither happen very often) cause its so loud I just smile and say "Good" :). Most of the times they are doing it joking around anyway.

As far as the neighbors go, I live out in the country and all my neighbors are related to me, and none of them care. I barely stay out pass 11:30 anymore so its no big deal. Truth is I am not the only person with a loudish vehicle in the place either, but my truck is the loudest thats driven (theres a few project vehicles thats louder). Only problem I worry about is the police, but no issues with them yet either.

I have 3" duals dumped at the axle, no cats, LT's, cam, stall. I sometimes feel bad about starting my car up in the morning to go to work, but no one has said anything to me. Late at night, I'll put it in second since it shifts there faster when you do. I can keep it pretty quiet... to me at least.

Since I am a nice guy, I close my cutout every time I get back home past 12.. my neighbors love my car though.. always ask me to rev it when I pass them, just not at 2am. :)

I don't worry too much about what "Haters" think. Now when I see a cop I let off the gas:D

Yes they will. One of them would probally fire a warning shot with a 12 gauge, and see where it goes from there. But he is my grandfather.

But I live out in the country..."BFE" its sometimes called, and not a city. ALL my neighbors are family members too. Say what you will about the area I live in...I wouldn't trade it for living in a city at all. Just so relaxing here.

I live in a very thick residential neighborhood, smack dab in the middle of town. I had my hawk, my roomie has a camaro..(sporting a hefty 110 lsa camshaft) and we have about four bikes with full exhaust. We moved here about 3 weeks ago and so far only one neighbor hates it when we rev them up in the garage.

One of my friend's neighbor(I was over there all the time) was a real dick though, he'd called the cops on my buddy several times about my car and other people's loud cars. Apparently his bedroom window was right next to my buddy's driveway. All of us were curteous to this guy and didn't do burnouts, rev it up, etc. Total asshat. Buddy moved out of this rental house, so it was fucking on. For the past few months, all of us with a loud ass car will occasionally stop by and do a nice burnout in front of his house at 2:00am :devil:

I have had one neighbor complian about my car. It seems that going 20mph in First is speeding lol. So when I got up for work that morning, 4:30am I pulled up to their house and did a 3000rpm Launch. They dont complain anymore.

I get home late every night and usually drive thru the parking lot close to idle. There's a few stupid fucks here that ride by cars with sensitive alarms and rev the hell out of their cars. I'm going to see which apartment they go to someday and then at about 3 am backup to their bedroom window and redline my car for a little while. I think they would enjoy that since they seem to like noise.

Its a blower car, with 3" TD's and LT's. It sounds "good", its obviously not stock, but doesn't rattle windows (unless you're really in it).

I'm referring to LOUD cars, not just guys who have a nice exhaust like a good cat back or something. Theres no reason for a stockish car to be ultra loud, its just obnoxious. And theres no reason to make your car even louder than it is by 5 granding it through your apartment complex. Once you're older and have children sleeping and they get woken up by some idiots POS you'll realize how dumb it really is.

I got a straight piped C5z, i try and keep the rpm's below 2K in any residential area, and I don't lay into her until I'm on the public streets. she becomes real quiet though when warmed up. I've pulled up and idled next to many cops, drove along side highway patrol, etc, not a single problem, just thumbs up.

As for the people with pointlessly sensitive alarms(ive never seen a thief become deterred by an alarm, but thats jus me personally), my truck with just some quiet flowmasters will set 'em off! For those fucks, I got a real loud car that ill rev the piss out of next to.

My car sets off alarms within a 10-20 ft radius when I start it. I try to be nice when i'm coming into my neighborhood.

I am a good neighbor and only drive mine during the day (mostly weekends). I leave too early in the morning to be starting a true dualed LS1.

Got lt and a lm setup on my DD. i short shift it around my block, only get on it when i race or on the highway. no complaints in my neighborhood yet.

What irritates me is when someone complains about my LT, true dual car but then 3 Harleys that are waaaaaay louder drive by and no one does anything.

lol..I agree with you on the harley thing Tyler, mine's as loud, if not louder than my car and most people love it. The weekend I moved into my neighborhood I introduced myself and told everyone about my car and that if they had any issues with it then please bring it to me first instead of getting others involved. I explained when I usually drive it and that I'd be as considerate as possible and I haven't had any complaints yet. Most of them don't exactly like it, but they must have noticed that I made the extra effort. If it's particularly early and I want to drive it, I'll roll it out of the garage and into the street before I start it.

I would not change it if you like it. i drive my car open cutout in my neighborhood, but not at 2am. and honestly at low idle its not that loud.

i had a neighbor like that, it was actually my next door neighbor. i had a pool table in my garage, which was next to her house. she would call the cops all the time saying she could hear the "balls clacking". and we were not being loud. it was 2 - 4 kids, music on low.

eventually the cops got tired of all the calls, they told her to stop calling, the "kids" have every right to be in their garage. also good to mention the cops would walk down the driveway and didn't hear a thing until they got the garage door.

if your not doing anything stupid, and they keep calling the cops, the cops will prolly get tired of it and tell the neighbors your not doing ne thing wrong.

yup, her exact words were "I can hear their balls clacking" ... here's the scenario, its good for a short laugh.

we're in the garage, door open (by door i mean the door for a car... not like a side door ) . her house was dark and quiet, it was late.

now her room where she sleeps is near the front of the house. suddenly we see all the lights in the house have been turned on, and all the windows in the house have been opened, where previously they have not been. and she is sitting in a window in the back of the house, pulling the screen out of the window. about 5 minutes later, a cop comes strolling down our driveway and the neighbor is literally hanging out the window (mind you she's like 80+ years old) yelling to the cop " i cant sleep cuz i hear there balls clacking all night" ... it was all my friend and I could do to keep from literally LOL, even the cop had a slight "almost chuckle" ... and the neighbor goes on "i can't close my windows cuz i dont have air conditioning" .

i explained that her bedroom is in the front of the house, her windows just opened five minutes ago, and she always harasses us when she's see's us out here hanging out.

cops reply " well i didn't hear a thing when i walked down your driveway, so just wait here..."

he walks about 10 ft over to the neighbor, still hanging half out the window and repeats that to her, and tells her to stop callin the cops we are not doign ne thing wrong.

she comes back with "well they should have to close the door on the garage if there gonna be in there." to which the cop said "well i don't think they have any air conditioning in their garage, so I don't think thats a good idea" and walked away.

talk about obnoxious. really she was jsut old and lonely and had nothing better to do. she has since been put in a nursing home, what scares me is up until she went into the home she was driving. :eyes:

as far as laws go, a Police officer is given "discretion" to a point that they can ticket you for loud exhaust if they feel its a problem. they also have the discretion to say its not too loud and not issue that ticket. so i just say, if they are not giving you tickets, don't change the exhaust (if your OP). if you start getting fines and stuff for it, thats when i would change it.

again its not like your ripping down the street WOT everyday... i don't see what the problem is, other than maybe your neighbors are old and lonely.

That's what I got :) Only 31" power packs! Sounds crazy, especially on higher rpms.

I (MS3, dumped duals, 4k stall) simply drive as quietly (make that as not loud) as possible at night or very early in the morning.

I'm not about to change my car or driving habbits (meaning what I drive and when I drive it) because it bothers somebody.

However, I'm not an inconsiderate, immature jackass so I do my best not to bother people at night/early morning.

I used to work nights and would come home at 2-4am. Neighbors didnt' like it a whole lot. I just drove slowly and didn't give a shit.

I have H/C with true duals and nobody has complained yet. I try to park my car so as not to face peoples houses though so it isnt that bad for them.

But recanted, when I managed to idle in and it only rattled thier windows as opposed to when I floored it down the block and made thier pictures fall off the walls. Until the law or a restraining order hits I will attempt to be as quiet as possible. After that I will get a better exhaust. Thinking Spintech with some actual mufflers.... :cry:

This sums up what I do in a nutshell.

my car has dumped LTs, so its decently loud. I just drive slowly in my neighborhood.

Electric cutout here with stock muffler back in place. I keep it closed most of the time anyways, damn thing purrs like a kitten when closed, so no one really cares. My neighbors are all cool as hell, but I am sure they wouldn't like it if I came in a 2 am cammin like hell with the cutout open.

I drive quietly through my neighborhood at night, even though both of my cars have been Y-piped and muffler'd. However there is a damn Grand Prix at the end of my block that my stock SS with 2otl would set off EVERY time. Quietest car I've owned and it honks the horns.

There were a couple of days where I drove my buddies H/C/3600 stall true duals with bullets TA to school at 8am. One neighbor called the cops and threatened to beat our asses because he just had a baby, I never played revenge but I still think he's a jackass. I can idle home and get bitched at, but my neighbor with a Viper likes to be a first gear driver up the street without any issues.

I also build/install custom stereos every day, the volume gets turned down a couple blocks from the house. The 15''s make sound travel much further than my exhaust, so turn it down.

My TA buddy had a neighbor that was a complete asshole, and he'd give a few throttle bursts driving by his house every time.

A neighbor at a friends house once yelled at me saying " Can you slow down next time? There are kids over here" I never once went over even 20mph because he lives at a house right after you make a turn. i have true duals and cam...my neighbors have always hated all my previous cars and now this is the loudest. ive been back in Michigan wtih my TA for 3 months and ive had several complaints about my car from neighbors, a cop was hangin aroudn the corner one day and caught me doin 133 in a 45, got my license suspened the first month i came home for 3 months. so i havent been drivin for awhile now. i drive it around my neighborhood and people still bitch about me, i just had a complaint today.

Looks like a very clean set-up. It must sound badass. I love the fitment of the Texas Speed true duals and that they just bolt up, but wish I had a full stainless system out the back with some nice polished tips. Maybe I'll have mine run out the back in the future though. I don't think you can beat the bolt-on ability of the TSP duals for the price ($450).

In neighborhoods, regardless of what time it is, I keep it below 3000 RPM. In my daily commute, neighborhood or not, I don't take my car above 5000 RPM...that shit just wastes gas :jest:

yeah, it was loud, we had to yell at each other to talk. Thing was full tube chassis, mostly fiberglass body, NO interior, 16 point chromoly cage with 8 load bearing points attached to the chassis, and he always ran it on slicks. thing ran mid to low 8's in the quarter, is best IIRC was an 8.2@167 with around a 1.4 60'. Best I pulled in it was an 11.4@138. :jest:

I had this guy come across the street (about 6pm) as the car is ideling and I'm wiping it down before going to a little GTG in town. I saw him walking over and smiled, thinking that he was going to compliment me on the car, which usually happens, and he says "Do you think we like hearing that (shaking his fat hands) woo-woo-woo-woo-woo all the time coming home late at night waking my wife dying of cancer?"

I was in such shock I just smiled and said "I guess not" and went on wiping it down.

I really didn't feel that bad because he has this loud ass fukin diesel truck that's in and out constantly.

I drive my car the same way no matter what time of day it is... I don't get on it until I'm out on the open highway. Guy across the street from me has 3 Mustangs, and he makes a lot more noise than I do, so I'm safe.

I've been driving around with open manifolds on my 89 since saturday. I'm still getting used to feathering the gas and getting to cruising speed quickly to cause less noise. Around neighborhoods and heavy traffic I drive cautiously and try not to be a nuisance, but on the freeway I don't care. I'll drop a gear just to hear the obnoxious scream of death from the mighty 305...I need a mullet wig.

My car is too loud for it's own good...but I still drive it...I even passed inspection with it...

I think it's cool to have a loud sounding exhaust, and who gives a damn if people think its loud. *BUT*, at 2am or generally later at night I would not be revving the engine or redlining, because it doesn't matter what you think, people will still regard that as excessive and they may just choose not to complain maybe thinking you're some nutball psycho! :jest:

My neighborhood is full of police officers. At one time between my house the road, I passed by five houses that had law enforcement officers that lived in them.

I've driven:

Trans Am (it's quiet, unless the cutout is open)
Camaro (it's quiet) and
Vette (I keep it quiet around the neighborhood and drive slow)

None of the law enforcement officers them have ever bothered me in nine years.

A 2002 Z28, showed up in the same neighorhood with only a loud exhaust. Cops were at owners door talking to the driver about their "conduct" in the hood within a month of the loud Z28 showing up.

Loud at the wrong time and place equals unwanted attention.

I don't see any reason to be an obnoxius moron in a residential area. It's easy to have the best of both worlds, with a nice quiet cat back like the SLP dual/dual and a cutout. Keep the cutout closed in the neighbor hoods where folks live and open the cutout the other times. You can have a loud car and get along with your neighbors too. With powered cutouts, there really isn't much of a reason, other than just wanting to be a jerk.

If your loud enough long enough, eventually someone will key the crap out of car, call the cops, cut your tires, sugar your gas tank or you'll get caught up in something that gets out of hand.

Moron with a Mustang gets in a fuss with this wife at 4:00am, then gets in his loud car and revs up and down the street in front of his house and across the street from my friends house. This had happened several times and the guy had been asked not to be an ass wipe. So of course, he does it again, because it's all about him and what bothers other people that work and have families and small kids doesn't matter. Friend goes out side with the shot gun, and stands on the side of the road down by his side. As the loud Tang comes by, he shoots. About six inches in front of the windshield as the car goes by. The guy locks the car down in panic and sits for a few seconds collecting himself, then looks up to see a shot gun muzzle poking thru the passenger window. He gets told to go the F--K home because the next time my friend won't shoot six inches in front of the windshield. Mustang guy goes home & parks the car, never to repeat the stunt again.

Would my friend have been crazy enough to kill the guy over this? Well he was in his fifties when he did it. He knew exactly what he was doing. He's a country boy. I've never heard him make any threat, he didn't carry out and I've know him for 30 years. I think another pass (ever) and the world would have had one less Mustang driver in it. You can say, oh he'd never do me that way etc cause I'm just too bad etc, maybe so but it's really not to hard to just step out of the shadows and blow some jackass away when they least expect it if your boiling mad enough.

Dude, I generally agree with everything you said about being loud and obnoxious at the wrong time/place attracts unwanted attention. But I also wanted to point out, your friend is CRAZY. He is exactly the same sort of asshole (no offense) that thinks it's all about him and that he can do whatever he wants.

I can understand he is pissed off at mr mustang driving up and down street, but in now way whatsoever is he justified or in any right to shoot at the guy's car. Didn't change my habits at all cause I never get on it till I'm out of our hood and I dont drive it much anyways. The kids around here leave their bikes and balls and crap everywhere anyways. The woman that I think wrote it moved, no problems since.

Shit i remember when i installed my MS3 i had open headers and loved it to death. Would get stares at every street light, and little kids always popped up out of nowhere to see where the noise was coming from. Then i installed back my 3" Xpipe with Sweet Thunder Mufflers dumped at the rear, sounds nice at idle still screams at WOT but it just isn't the same. Im still trying to figure out how to make it louder. I'll probably continue the piping under the rear axle and out the rear, but install straight pipes in place of the chambered mufflers.
