Default How hot?

I had a fan make a hole in my radiator tonight. My LS1 reached a temp of 260, but I shut it down fairly quickly. I would have to wait a little bit for it to cool down to get it home. It wasn't driven far, as it sprung a leak about 2 miles for my house. It does not knock or anything, but how hot does a motor have to get before major damage occurs? I am sure my Ls1 is fine, just thought I would ask.

it would have to be sustained, running, at 260 before any real damage occurs. i wouldn't take a chance a driving it home though. use a tow rope or have it flat bedded home. change the oil before you fire it up again.

Its already home. Why change the oil?

What do you mean by "sustained"?

Because it is probably smoked.

sustained would mean to continue driving while the temp needle was pegged. and change the oil in case it got a little hot and broke down. cheap insurance there.

I think you're alright. Like he said, it's not like you kept driving it with the needle pegged. Change the oil, get a new radiator and flush it, fill it and back on the road!
