Paint & Body Work - Getting a maaco paint job, any guides/threads for prepping?

hey, my clear coat is becomming horrid. I dont have alot of money so i am gona have to do the maaco budget paint. I am pretty set on getting it and i know some people who have gotten it and it turned out pretty good. I am going to prep it myself.

What grit should i use to sand with?
how far do i sand it down to.

Any replies with threads/pms with links on how to prep a car before paint would be greatly appreciated.

I tried searching but when i try searching for titles only and stuff and in paint section only, it doesnt do it. just searches whole threads and in every forum category.

Use 400 grit if you have to sand, but I would suggest you use scotch brite instead. For areas are are smooth just scuff the paint. Remember to use a tack cloth before they paint and after the paint before the clear.

P.S. is the paint coming off or what? Have you tried wet sanding / polishing? If the paint is okay you could just do clear coat.

I'd be afraid that a few years down the road you're going to have it chipping again since you're having Maaco do it :(. While it may look good initially it's whether it will last like a more reputable good body/paint shop would do.
