Default Houston: Where can I get some tires shaved?

I need to get some tires shave 1 or 2 32nd but I'm not sure who could do it locally. I don't think Discount can shave tires. Any leads?

There is a Porsche shop over by my work that could most likely do it. I am off of Hwy59 and Murphy Road.

Not sure, it begins with a V I think, weird name but they have nothing but hard core fully caged, road race tire, striped down Porches there and they seem to race competativly. Address is 13003 Murphy Road.

They're r-compounds for road racing with a wet-tread. Shaving them down 2/32s leaves you with a groved slick. Running the full tread in the dry can make the tires wear bad and not last as long.

I get my road race tires shaved through Phil's Tire Service or Vilven Tire. But those shops are located in the mid-west.

I don't know of ANY shaving machines in the Houston or DFW area. You need to find a shop that makes retread tires, like for big rigs. That would be your best bet.

And FWIW ... 2/32s is awfully thin. They are fast and sticky, but don't last very long ... less than a weekend at MSR-H. I get my Toyos shaved to 4/32s. I can get 1/2 a season out of a set.

If you do find a shaver, let me know. That is good information.

Try Strouhal's, I think one of their shops does it.

I know A-Z tire shaves them. They are located off of 290 near 610. I have a tire shaver at my shop, but don't have the time to do any right now. I usually help a guy at work shave Miata tires.

I meant take 2/32 off, making them 4/32 deep and removing the rain tread. I think I'm just going to put some street miles on them before the event afterall, might be a wet event anyway.

Goes from a tire that looks like a regular street tire to a groved slick.
