im leaking fluid right where the steering shaft connects to the rack. my steering shaft was alittle bent (dont ask) when i installed it. im guessing thats the cause,
anyone know what seals/etc, would break from steering with a bent steering shaft?

No, it's more along the lines of no one actually rebuilds their own rack.
I think there's only one main input shaft seal and that would be pretty much the only thing affected by a bent steering shaft. Over time the incorrect "entry" angle would cause the seal to deform and, therefore, not seal correctly.

The rack in my firebird was leaking from the same place. I fixed it by getting a repair kit from the dealer; the kit includes the input shaft seal, a new upper bearing for the pinion gear and a packet of lube.
Apparently as the top bearing wears and get loose it damages the seal. I do not have the part number but the kit was about $40.00.
The only tricky part with the install is making sure the the pinion gear does not rotate while it is not in contact with the rack, if so your steering wheel will not be centered and you will have to take it apart and do it again.
