Default Tach and shift light problem

Ok. kinda long. sorry

bought a GM performance tach by autometer and a proform shift light. i tied the power wires to the accesory spot in the fuse block and then tied the ground to the body at the same spot my line lock is ground at. then cought the tack wire inside the car off of my window switch for the nitrous.

Started the car up and the autometer tach shows a 750 rpm idle while the dash shows 1000rpm. when i rev the engine the auto meter tach clims slower(alot ) than the factory dash tach. to the rate of when the tach says 3200 the dash tach is at 6700. i had the shift light set at 3000 and it didnt come on till right before the car redlined. so its reading the same way the tach is. I bought the tach used but bought the light new and since the shift light is coming on when the autometer tach says 3k( and thats what the light is currently at) i would believe the tach is ok...... I disconnected the window switch from where i spliced the tach and shift light into it thinking the window switch was screwing with thing, but i got the same results....

Anyone got any ideas as to what im doing wrong?

It could be that the Autometer gauge is triggered for V8 type of spark patterns. I believe the LS1 tach and PCM is triggered as a four cylinder for the RPM readout. Give Autometer a call, they should be able to help you out.

The LS1 is triggered as 4cyl.

Why do you need 2 tach's instead of just getting 1 shift light like a raptor. I haven't looked at my tach since I got one

Alot of the time the stock tach is not dead on like an aftermarket tach is from what I have read.

That is true, but who needs a huge *** tach? All you need is a shiftlight to tell you when to shift....thats all that matters...SHIFT!

Peace,
Craig.

P.S. - Yes you need to put any shiftlight or tach into 4cyl. mode for them to work.

I would still like to have the tach to make sure what is going on. What if your car is cutting out or something and you want to know what rpm that it is happening at?? Just personal preference I guess. But I am talking from a strictly race car perspective and not a street car.
