I recently bought a 98 trans,it has NO TCS button,I thought ALL trans ams came with this but now i see that it was an option,So if it DOESN'T have the button does this mean that i CAN'T spin the wheels,i wanna do burnouts but i can't, what's the deal???? PLEASE HELP

If you dont have the button,its a good thing for what you want.
No button=No traction control.
Traction control limits throttle to prevent tire spin,without it youre going to be able to spin at will.
Just be very careful in the rain,Its an option for a reason.
It does help in wet/limited traction surfaces.I would have crashed my car, at least one time bad,if I didnt have it.

Well let me give a little insight.....burnouts do 3 things well:

-Waste perfectly good street tires and cost you more money per year.

+Heat drag radial or slick compound tires to increase traction

-/+give a little smoke show for some friends,who are probably bored.

With that said,this is how:
Stop the car completely

Push the brake pedal with your left foot

With your right foot(while holding the brake)push the gas pedal.
Throttle until you feel the tires break loose and start givin it a little more.

Wait for the smoke.

An ls1 trans am shouldnt have the slightest bit of trouble spinning off the footbrake.

Practice in a safe area(away from any type of law enforcement)


MORE THROTTLE.It should be smooth as silk to do.I have an auto so I speak your language

If you carefully follow and understand the steps I laid out,youll be able to increase your burnouts coolness, by knowing when and how much is enough to get the most smoke.

A stock LS1 can bust a mean burnout!!!!


Ever see a lightning do one?Its sick as they get.Just my personal taste.

Ok. i'm gonna give it another shot,i think i was just being a little soft,my friend has a 97 T/A and was doing burnouts,in front of ALL the girls,and now i really do need to redeem myself

I hope I helped Oh and as far as RPMs go,you can get way into it bro.Almost floored if you want to,but you want to control your burnouts.

a standart ls1 car can burn rubber better then most cars..

mine is a manula.. in it smoked tires through the first 2 gears bone stock...

I think I know what this guy is talking about.

I had a 98'TA (a4)bought new and I never could get a decent burnout from it unless it was wet out or,I got really lucky.I would brake and hammer it and nothing.It would almost act as if it was just choking or something.But race someone and it would whoop a$$ like nobody's business.It had that vicious pull that LS1s are famous for up top.

Later I had a 30th anniversary TA (A4 as well) and could light'em up at will.Unlike the 98'TA.

My brother has a 98'TA (A4) and also has a big problem in busting them loose.Same thing like my old 98'TA.

Now what I noticed that was the difference between me and my brother's 98'TAs and the 30th TA that I had was that the 98's we had had 2.73s out back while the 30th TA I had being that it was a WS6,automatically was optioned with the 3.23s rear.

Now I personally think that even with the 2.73s the 98's we had should have been able to spin'em with ease considering how much torque these babies have but,they wouldn't.

I'm curious as to which of you guys with fairly STOCK A4s have 2.73s vs 3.23s??And if that might play a role in some people having a problem getting thier A4s to do a burnout.

Both 98's were not equipped with traction control.But acted as if they were.

BTW I have an M6 SS now and have no probs....... I reaaaally love 6 speeds

I can do a burnout easy as hell in my 2:73's with new tires.. I choose not to, because I like to baby my car unless I'm doing something I'll be happy about at night while I'm trying to sleep..

For example, if I was at the track and had to clean off the tires for a good launch to beat a Cobra, then that's okay.
If I just go and beat the **** out of my car for no reason, it will stay in my head all day and I'll be like "Why the f- did I do that" haha I guess I'm an old 20year old

Oh I know what you mean man...And I rarely do something like that myself but,when you first get a new (to you) car,you kinda want to spin'em a little just to see how well it does it.

Now your comments also make me wonder what in the world was up with my old 98' that it couldn't spin them YET had NO problems racing other LS1s and such.

Like Havok mentioned....."WIERD".
