Cadillac CTS-V - Differentials and Carfax?

If i was looking at an 04 or 05 V, is there any way i could tell whether the differential has been replaced (and if so, is there any to tell how many times)?

i really like the cts-v, but this rear diff thing really has me on stand-by now.

i can't afford an 07 (or an 09!).. so, id be picking up one of these beautiful, used 27k v's.

Carfax only shows accidents and changes of ownership, not warranty repairs.

As long as it's still under warranty, who cares if it's had 10 rear diff replacements?

If you have the vin # then a Dealer will be able to tell you if it has been done :)

PM me the VIN and I'll let you know. Don't get suckered in to the "diff hysteria" about these cars. Most people still have their original one in there- Internet forums have made a mountain out of a molehill on this one. All LSDs make some noise, but one guy posted a failure story and now everyone runs to the dealer at the first moan from the rear.

The number of failed differentials (meaning seized, broken or shattered) is incredibly small.

It seems the majority of diff failures come from people treating a 3800 lb car like a drag car

i was actually just thinking.. knowing about these problems now, i wouldnt mind buying a V with a fresh diff on it (like an STS diff) ... it'd be a plus for me to know, say for example, i was looking at a car with 30k miles, and i knew that 5k miles ago they put a fresh diff in the rear end. that would be somewhat reassuring. know what i mean?

i spent about an hour at the dealer today sitting in a thunder gray '07 LS2 V in the showroom. nice. too many pennies for my budget tho! :bang:
