TREX/G5X4/Vindicator on stock heads? Which one?
After going through different setups, weighing my options, etc, I see guys making 425-450 rwhp with a cam only. I thought about it a bit and I don't know if I want to spend 2k on heads right now especially since I will be out of school in a year and needing some money for a house, etc.
This is for an rx7 that will weight probably around 2900 it will have a t56 w/ 4.10s. I have a FAST 90/90 setup. I will be building headers with duals or a Y depending on what fits. Motor will have ARP rod bolts.
This is not a daily driver. Pretty much just a weekend/fun car but I would like to be able to drive it whenever I need. I think the light weight of the car should partially offset some "drivability" problems and the "low" torque problems at low rpm. Do these cams like to cruise at 75mph in 6th gear on the highway?
I had been looking at the TREX and the G5X4 and maybe the Vindicator from vengeance. Unfortunately, ls1tech search is nothing to take to the bank so...
For my own reference (and maybe yours ) all in one spot:
TREX is 242/248 - .608/.612 - 110 lsa
G5X4 is 24x/24x on a 111 lsa
Vindicator is 240/244 .608/.596 112+4
I'd probably end up using patriot gold or extreme springs. They seem to be a cheap price but with quality.
I know you don't have to flycut with the trex or g5x4. Ron at Vengeance told me he has seen them as close as .030 on the PTV clearance with the Vindicator so I don't know if I want to use that cam. If I'm not upgrading the heads, I don't really want to pull the heads off.
425-450rwhp would be great in the RX7 and I have a nitrous kit for anything more. 425rwhp is still almost a 10 sec car in a 2900lb car.
What do you think? Anyone who ACTUALLY uses one of these cams have input?

well i know that you didn't mention the ms4, but it is similar to these cams, i have a 12 bolt w/3.73's and i can cruise @ 65 mph in 6th with no problem. And that much hp in an rx7 will be wicked!
