Hey everyone,
I am in the central VA area, I just picked up a 'total loss" 1993 Chevy Camaro with a 4.3L V6 and a 4 spd auto. it only needs a hood and both SRS airbags.
I have already a 2004 5.3L (LS1? or whatever it is LS6?) out of a Suburban with PCM/Harness/4L60E auto. just waiting to be swaped in. I am a massing parts and waiting to finish another project before I start.

a 5.3 is not an LS1 I can't recall the RPO code right this second.

Here are the RPO codes and their corresponding engine:
LS1=5.7L
LS6=5.7L (with better heads/cam/intake)
LR4=4.8L
LM7=5.3L (285 hp)
LM4=5.3L (290 hp)
LQ4=6L
LQ9=Upgraded 6L
a 5.3 is not an LS1 I can't recall the RPO code right this second.
5.3 may not be an LS1 but it is still LS motor which can be made to LS1 spec.

I didn't say it couldn't, I just said it's not an LS1.
IT's still a Gen III V8 :)

Ok well either way... so its a Gen III V-8. I plan on running headers and duals out and would like to put a cam in it and a less restrictive intake on it. Any cam mild cam recomendations?
And/Or what is the difference aside from cam and ECM programing between a LS1 and my 5.3 burban motor?

I dunno, I just know the RPO codes, I'll check around and see what I can find for you. And I didn't meant to discourage you at all, I just have OCD and am a stickler for proper crap like that lol
Oh, and a very good resource for Gen III builds would be Will Handzel's "How to Build High Performance LS1/LS6 V8s" It covers all the Gen III V8s and has a lot of good info. I got my copy at a local bookstore so you should look for it.

Thanks... I am familar with engine building... I should have been more percise... this is my first non-traditional (SB cast iron) modular alum. Late model build up. I was just wondering what... if any.. major structual differences are in the block/crank for a Gen III truck engine vs. car. other than the usually detuning of the heads/intake/camshaft/PCM
Im surfing amazon now for the book. If you do rear end work.. Jim Allen's "Differentials" is a good read too
