Default Is dumping the exhaust before the rear axle illegal?

i want to ditch my catback and get a tubular muffler dumped before the axle.

legal or no?

for some reason i have this thought in my head that exhaust has to exit at the back of the car

Depends on how loud for noise.

Has to exit behind the passenger compartment. The rear seats are pretty much the furthest part of the passenger compartment. However the rear deck does still constitute the passenger compartment if I remember right. Seems like if the rear divider panel is up, the trunk area doesn't join the passenger compartment because it's divided. If the divider is folded down, then the trunk is basically part of it then because it is accessable (not practical but still accessible). Did that make any sense?

a little bit, i think im gona do it anyway

my argument will be that nobody sits there because the nitrous bottle takes up too much room

im gona try it with the SLP muffler and see how loud it is, im guessing i'll have to change it out because of the loudness

well it is not legal but might pass. I never say it will not because every inspector has their own opinion/interpretation. No it is not legal because it is still under the passenger compartment and there is a possibility of fumes getting in there, so i would fail you personally. but then again i am only a hard *** because my **** is not legal and i have to get lucky or pay extra to get inspected.

if you have to have dumped exhaust . just do it after the axle tucked in and all! would be much better. your call tho.
