Question What is this?????

Hey guys this is not my car but my car has this exact set up

what type of set up is this and what type of hood do i need to make this setup functional???

my car is in the shop and they ordered a WS6 hood from GM...the guy at the shop states that the GM hoo will not work with my set up...so now he needs to find a hood that will work for this intake setup.

the old damaged hood had some foam/sealer that would seal uptight when closed.

do you guys have any idea...

That is what you would call a lt1 style ram air setup. you can get a stock ls1 radiator support and lid to change it back to stock...

Here is a picture of a stock setup with a slp lid.

how much horsepower do you think an LS1 engine would gain from a set up like this

would it be better if i go back to stock....meaning the shop keeps the hood they already have and they would just need to order a stock air box???

and since my car is a 98 trans am NOT A WS6 = NON RAM AIR

what could i do to make a functional ram air set up?????

I don't know if you would gain anything if so it would be minimal 5-10hp at most. I believe theres a after market company that makes a hood for that setup. the ws6 and non ws6 had the same basic intake setup.

now i have a choice to make

1) keep the hood the shop already has and get the stock air box
or
2) have the shop find and order the hood that will work with this set up

(i jsut want my car back) so im lookinf for the faster fix...but i also dont want to lose any HP

Now im stressed...and i cant get a bear cuz im at work ahahaa

That is the ram air setup from Suncoast Creations. I had that on my LS1 Camaro. Their hoods are setup to go with it.

I would browse the for sale section for a ls1 setup, and also post up in the wanted section for the ls1 stuff...

Hello from Suncoast,

I can't see the pictures for some reason but I wanted to offer some help. I've just loaded a ton of pictures to the website so you may find helpful pics there. www.suncoastramairhoods.com

The hoods are a nice piece but i had big problems with the one i purchased fitting right. had lots of LARGE gaps. i got it close enought after lots of shimming but it looked good when finished and i got lots of compliments. The ram air scoops are slightly closer together and sit higher up in the back. Also have a heat vent in the back of them. I will show a pic of it if i can find a pic of the car on my computer.
