Default C5 brake upgrade, worth the $$ ?

Looking to upgrade my brake system, just wondering if its really worth the money to move up to a set of C5 brakes? I know theyre bigger, but by how much? Also, the the C5 calipers have more and/or better pistons? I work at an auto parts store so I can get all the parts 20% off, minus the conversion brackets that Ill get from UMI. Thanks in advance, any advice is appreciated.

Yes it's worth it, no they don't have more or better pistons. They are stronger calipers that can hold a bigger pad, and the C5 rotors are larger.

i've done it and haven't regretted it. Although, in all honesty, i did it more for cosmetics then function. But, it has come in handy a couple times to have bigger brakes, especially when a knucklehead in front of you decides to do something stupid on the road.

i guess if it works better only once, its worth the money and time spent. there are a lot of douche bag drivers in tallahassee so I think Im going to invest in the upgrade.

Hello,

Below is a list of benefits from the C5 brake conversion:

Benefits of Running the C5 Set Up

1. Larger Rotors: The larger rotor absorbs and radiates more heat, the C5 rotor is 1” larger then the LS1 rotor and 2” larger then the LT1 rotor
2. C5 Rotors are directional unlike the LT1 and LS1 set ups. C5 rotors feature fins designed to advance air flow allowing better cooling.
3. Many brake pad and rotor options are available for all types of driving
4. The C5 calipers are pressure cast not gravity cast, this helps increase caliper life
5. Unlike other brake set ups, C5 components can be purchased at any parts store. This eliminates down time when an item may fail or require quick replacement.

If I can help anymore please ask. Thank you!

I just ordered my UMI C5 upgrade on Sunday from WS6 Store. I understand there will be a little spindle modification. Could you tell me what this involves? I know that there will be instuctions with the parts, but I would like to be prepared. PM me or ghardester@centurytel.net Thanks.

Step # 1 in the link below shows exactly what needs cut. The installation instructions included are very detailed. Once you receive the kit and look over the instructions if you still have questions please give us a call.

ive been wondering. I just now noticed that all the c5 kits never include rear brakes as well. Do people generally only replace the fronts? While there is no doubt they look cool, would they really look good having corvette brakes in the front and then say brembos in that back? Or do people find kits with the whole package. are those even made?

most people usually only do the fronts, due to the cost vs. benefit involved with doing the rears....although there have been several people on here that have done both front & rear. you should be able to find them fairly easily in a search to see what they've done to get it all set up.
