Slightly scratched cam bearing from cam removal....
Guys,
The reluctor on the end of my cam (it wasn't the mechanic..really...) scratched the last cam bearing on its way out......I smoothed it out somewhat with a stainless steel pad....but it's still kinda there.....does a cam bearing have to be spotless to work right?....or should I be able to get by with this scratch...I'll post a picture when I get home...

ive always heard a scratched cam bearing will affect oil pressure. when i went to put my cam in i noticed a scratch on the cam bearing and i could feel it with my finger nail. I put the cam in any way. Car has about 45psi of coil pressure at a warm idle and 75-80+ WOT. Seems to be working fine for me ::knocks on wood::. But like i said i cant see your pics.

Cam bearings get the crap beat out of them and work just fine. The only real issue is if you can see copper, or the babit is delaminating exosing the shell, otherwise run 'em. I've swapped cams half a dozen times on the same engine, each time, in and out the bearings get a little more scratched, no worries.

LSX bearings show TONS of copper... I'm **** and looked ultra close and freaked myself out during my cam swap. I also had a fine scratch on the bearing... I lightly sanded it w/ emory.
I've put 6000 miles on my car since the cam swap and all is perfect... have an LS4 pump that makes 49psi at hot idle and 75ish at WOT. I finished up the cam swap in Jan/Feb or so and ran the car's first HPDE since the install this past June. Car did great and took high rpms all day long.
Here's what mine looked like... at the time the motor has 70,000 on it, maybe 69,xxx.

Thanks ...I feel alot better about the bearing now...it's just a minor scratch....I'll forgo posting a picture but thanks for putting yours up there. I guess I'll start installing the new cam I have now ...240/244 114 LSA/ 110 ICL..in my 408 in (100degrees+ temp today in Omaha, NE)...beer is a good fluid used to reduce the heat ..if you know what I mean. Said it before and I'll say it again....this is absolutely the best site on the internet (and on the best subject on the face of the earth!) ...

^ Careful... not sure I want to be jamming a cam in w/ a buzz. The thing that worried me the most was the nick in the front bearing... I was having a hard time getting the cam out and did that.
