When I first installed my SSF 3500 stall converter into my car, I noticed the car felt sluggish around the 2-3 shift at low rpms. This was especially noticable when I was pulling away from lights, etc. It felt like the car was falling flat on its face. Using HP Tuners, I tried to tune out this problem (changing shift points, etc) with no luck. Until someone told me about a table in HP Tuners regarding torque reduction. After zeroing out this table the problem disappeared immediately. I don't have my laptop with me right now so I can't tell you the exact name of the table that might be your problem. Perhaps someone else can chime in.

I think the post above is referring to Torque Management. Some cars have issues with this after a converter install. Seems to always be worse on the '01/'02 cars, in my experiance.

it is a computer issue usually, when installing a stall you need to have a retune...theres not much else to it

A tune isn't always needed after a stall change. My '00 car did just fine with the 100% stock tune and a 3500 stall. Usually the cars that are likey to have issues with a stall & stock tuning are the '01/'02, and even then some of those are fine as well.

It's hit or miss really.

Yes, you are right. As soon as I zeroed out the table my problem went away.

HP Tuners is very easy to use but probably a lifetime to learn all it can do.

The table that I zeroed out was the Spark Retard vs Torque Reduction table. When I installed the aftermarket stall the PCM thought something was wrong and rolled back the timing. This is what was causing my car to "fall flat on its face". Once I adjusted this table the problem totally disappeared. Hope this helps.

Get what? HPTuners? You could just find a shop in your area that tunes LS1s and have them tune it out for 50 bucks or whatever they'll charge you to do it. It shouldn't be much. All they do it hook the car up, find the table, tune out the torque management, and done.

If you don't plan to do your own tuning (I hear it's quite a learning experience anyway) then don't spend the money on HPTuners.
