Default People w/Darton MID Engines, Inside Please.....

Are the specialized Cometic head gaskets re-usable on these things? I've heard that the regular Cometic head gaskets are, but these have a thin rubberized coating on them. I bought my friends ultra-low-mile 387 Darton shortblock and was wondering if i can re-use these head gaskets. They're close to 200.00 for new ones, and they are a different part number from any other Cometic head gasket. Would suck if I have to spend close to 200 bones everytime I pull the heads off the block......

Just curious if anyone has tried to re-use these with any success or not. I'll be using ARP head studs if it matters.

Thanks,
Mike

ALL Cometic head gaskets are coated with a .001" layer of Viton rubber. This includes the MID gaskets. All their MLS gaskets claim to be re-usable, though I wouldn't do it more than once.

Good to know, thanks. For the price of these things, I'll give it a shot.

I've reused one of mine when I had to take off one head. I sprayed a few coats of Permatex gaskey spray on it and let it dry. I did a leak down test on it and it matched the same as the other.

Did you use that copper spray? The gaskets I'm gonna try to re-use has that copper gasket spray on both sides. It's proving very difficult to clean off so I'm now wondering if it's even worth it at this point.

yeah, i think it was the copper spray. If you can't get it nice and clean and recoated evenly I would buy some new ones.
