Should I buy this Z28 140k miles?
Ok guys, help me out here. I have been wanting a LS1 car since they came out and I couldn't even drive at that time. Almost 10 years later and still don't have one. Here's the thing. This guy is selling a 1999 Z28 black on black leather M6, loaded with 140K miles on it. Kinda high miles, but not too high right? Ok the only exterior problem is that the front bumper cover has a "spidering effect" from being hit lightly. The back brakes need changing pretty bad, there is a piece on the inside over the dash(not sure what the guy meant) but it is plastic and it is broke(he said a easy fix and under 100 bucks for a new part and it is only cosmetic) rip in the leather on the driver side (very small rip). Other than that everything on the car is fully functional and runs a drives great. I have not driven or seen it in person yet, but form the sound of what he is telling me it's not that bad. He only Wants $5500 for it. Yes $5500. Not a typo. That seems like good deal to me, but I wanted to here it from some guys that know more about these cars than I do. I would also probably be driving it daily almost if I bought it. Not a ton of miles but probably 8-12k miles a year.... maybe a less because I do have a 98 chevy pickup that I can drive as well. Anyway, is this a good deal or should I hold out for a lower mileage car. Oh almost forgot, this guy has only had it about a month, and is second owner, first owner was a 50 year old man, and oh yea, clean title too.

already offered 4500 to no avail, he won't go down form 5500, I'm just worreid everythiing will seem fine and I'll wind up drivin it too hard and spin a bearing, or bend a rod or do something stupid and I'll be screwed out of that engine.

I've heard so many people getting spun bearings so many times, the LS1 scares me. I mean if I did something like that and tryed my damnedest to fix it myself witht the help of some mechanic friends how much cash are we talkin. I don't know why I am so worried about stuff like that , I don't even have one yet..lol.

Yu don't "hear" about it that much. You "read" about it on this board. That's because this is a technical board. People cone on here with problems. Do you know how common of an engine the LS1 is?
Without seeing the car, it sounds like an alright deal. Great color combo. 140,000 is getting up there, though. 100,000 isn't anything, but 140... Starting to get there. Compression test would tell a story.
How about tellinh him you'll go $5500 IF you and/or he can take it to a shop and have a compression test done at his cost. If it looks okay, buy it if you want it.

Sorry Sharpe, you're right. It definatly is something I've read and not heard. I thank all of you for you're input, any more would be great. I will see if he will do a compression test at his cost, but from the way he acts about it, he probably will not. To tell you the truth if my wife would shut up about how many miles that is, I'd just get it, hell the car I drive now is 2005 Focus with 86000 miles on it, of course I've put 3/4th of those on there. So mileage isn't a big issue with me really, it's just my wife being a B**** sometimes.

Oh, and the wife probably has a good reason to gripe. The car does have a **** load of miles on it. But, its cheap as hell. Six in one hand, half dozen in the other. Tell her that you're considering trading her in for a newer model with less miles if she gripes too much more after you've made up your mind.

Cheaper LS1's with lower miles are easy to find. You just have to know where to look. I have found alot of 99 and up LS1's for under 6000. Just stay away from the 98's.

i got a 2000 Z28 M6 with 150K miles for a killer deals. it was one owner and really well maintained. everything is still mint on the car. after i bought it, i had a few things fixed and it puts a smile on my face every time i get in her and go.
i think the key is finding one that has been properly maintained all its life

basically I would go look at the car in person more get angry at it and see if you can find anything wrong with it, the compression test is not a bad idea either. I would surly check the compression
