Im just venting. Those things wreak havoc on my arms. I have to go to work looking like an IV drug abuser after doing anything around that area. Im sure theres other thing less noticeable there too that have gotten me a few times.

Yup thats exactly what they are. I think the coil packs were pre-assembled and are the same for all LS1's whether they are vette or f-body. The smooth spikes got into two little clips on the bottoms of the fuel rail covers.
My coil packs also had some studs on them as well... Not sure what they would have been for. These were holding the actual coil brackets to the valve covers. I replaced those with stainless bolts, and retained the spikes because I have fuel rail covers on my motor.
Just pull them out and put cap head bolts in...unless you want to run FRCs in the future.

Its not the coil pack spikes that bother me, its those damn pushpins on the cowl that drive me nuts. my poor arms after changing valvesprings and putting on a new intake
Even with the pushpins cut down its still a bitch

NOTE TO GM: DON'T LINE WORK AREA WITH SHARP, JUTTING, TEETH-LIKE SPIKES. THANK YOU.
^They at least they could do is stick a warning on there: WARNING: We at GM decided we would line this area with spikes. The spikes serve no purpose other than to chew up your hands and arms. No, really... We thought it was funny at the time. Sorry.

god you would hate to work on close tolerance aircraft where the sheetmetal tears holes in your skin all the time just doing something simple lol. I do ahte the placement sof GM's lil BS stuff. Those little spikes like said before are installed on teh engine before it even got installed on teh car, some went to vettes some went to fbodies in teh end those little spikes held in the fuel rail covers like said before. They snap in. That being said, I normally never reinstall the very back ones and I always seem to have extra studs aroudn to replace the spiked bastards. I cut my hands on the casting marks on the heads, those have done more damage to my knuckles then any other damn part on that car.
