Default 1998 z28 w/82k vs. 2002 z28 w/ 135k

All right guys, its time to get back into an f body, and i have it narrowed down to 2, both of which are $6500. The 1998 is a hardtop NBM with grey cloth, no mods and 82k miles. The 2002 is a ttop Pewter with Black leather, no mods and 135k miles. I know about the better intake and easier programming on the 02, but it has so many more miles. If it was up to you, which one?

What are your plans for the car? Daily driver? Or street/strip racer?

Hardtop/cloth car will weigh less than t-top/leather car in terms of racing. I love my t-tops, but most people don't even take them out after awhile.

NBM = bringing sexy back

82k mile 98 was probably well-taken care of and the 135k mile 02 was probably not as well kept.

Man, that's a tough decision. For $6,500, I think I'd take the '02. Maybe. That's strating to get to be a lot of miles, though. And, I like the dark blue way beter than the silver. Man, I don't know.

I would take the NBM hardtop 98. Are both A4 or M6?

I'd go for the '98 with lower miles. That's a big difference in mileage there, for the same price.

Try putting this into perspective on the mileage... the 98 in the past 9 years only got 82k miles... but in the past 5 years the 02 managed 135k miles???

I would say that 02 has been around just a little much in that short amount of time...

I'd take the 98, unless you have some crazy forced induction 2 bar SD setup in the future the 98 works just as well.

especially for the year difference.that 02 was drivin like crazy i say go with the 98 the better intake manifold is between 300-550 so that shouldnt be an issue
good luck

98, unless the 02 was a b4c which it isnt. it will be damn near impossible to sell that car way down the road if you ever wanted to

I'd say 98 FTMFW...and on a side note that sound like a really good deal to me. I gave $7k for my 98 and it had $90,xxx.

Id go for he 02 T top car It has all the options and what 40k more miles you would put that on in 2 years. and you are going to fix it up well in a year or two when you go to do heads cam just have it rebuilt. I personally love my leather and T tops I was in the same boat man I was looking at a black hardtop with cloth same miles as the one I bought but would have been almost 2 grand less and I went for the fully loaded car but thats just me

53k miles, 135-82 = 53. And it would take around 4 years at least to put that on if you average 13,250 miles a year which is quite a bit if he is planning on turning it into a track car...

are they both one owner no accident cars?

i'd take that into account for the decision

not to mention if you planned on upgrading the motor down the road its gonna be getting rebuilt so the miles dont matter as long as it runs fine till then.

get a compression test done?

That much lower mileage makes a difference unless you have documentation and service records showing the '02 was very well maintained and is mostly highway mileage. Mine had a ton of miles for an '02 but it was well maintained and a B4C cop car.
T-tops and leather vs. not? Pick what you like, you're the one driving it.

02 def as the 98 block had a minor oiling issue. Plus with the 02 your getting the ls6 intake, leather, and a bunch more options. Also, 99+ ecu's are easier to tune.

Lower miles is always more important to me. 98 cars run just as well.
