Default TB porting question

I am going to port/polish my own throttle body, but I have a question about the area near the throttle plate...the flat area that is not part of the bell shape. I realize that you don't want to create a gap between plate and casting at closed throttle, but should I avoid taking off much material in that flat part? It looks like it would effect slight throttle alot if you were to take off much material here. Does anyone have any ideas on this?

Take a Sharpie marker and trace the blade around the housing so that when its apart ready for porting you know were to stop.
