Default remove valve cover to get stock manifold out?

I got my hooker LTs and we are installing them tonight...the GM service manual says that you have to take the pass. side valve cover off to get the stock manifold out. Is this true or does it just give you more room to work? Anyone else have any tips?

They should come out the bottom just fine. I did mine on the TA and it was easy. On a GTO I would think that its just as easy. Good luck.

No need to remove the valve cover...I would just take the coil packs off to give you some more room to maneuver.

don't take off the valve covers and don't worry about removing the last spark plug boot unless you want to for a little extra room it will come out and go in with the plug line still on, took me a half hour of fighting with it to realize that I could remove it with out taking that son of a b out. You'll have to remove your steering nuckle also, it's easy only two bolts

I only took off my passenger side coil pack. Didn't have to remove the steering knuckle but headers aren't all made the same. Pull off the coil pack on the passenger side but don't worry about the wires just yet. Once that coil pack is off then go after the wires.
The driver side is a piece of cake. Remove the wires and start unbolting the manifolds. Take your time though. I suggest spraying all the manifold bolts down the night or day before you go to remove the manifolds with PB Blaster. Friend told me that and it made it much easier.
Once you have the manifolds out remove your plugs. I would replace them anyway. Your passenger side header should slide up in there with no problem but the driver side you may have to jack up on the motor to get it in there.
After that it's just bolting them and fitting in the rest of your exhaust and reinstalling your plugs, wires, and coil pack.
Good luck!
