Default Trying to avoid flycutting...

Hey gang,

I am getting a set of ported 5.3 heads with 2.02" & 1.575" valves. I was wondering if there is a cam that I can use in combination with that without having to flycut my pistons.

Any info would be appreciated!

Or just get the cam you want, and flycut since heads will be off anyway.

from researching this it looks like that will be my only option... just worried about flycutting too much cause there is no turning back...

So set the tool properly so you cut only what you want. That's how it is designed. It's pretty much idiot proof.

measure twice, cut once. Flycutting isn't really that hard. Just take your time if you end up having to flycut.

Ideally you should pick out the heads and cam based on how much static compression (basically how many cc's your heads have) and dynamic compression (heavily influenced by the cam and gasket) and where you want the powerband to be. Try not to pick a combo just cause you might have to flycut a little.

I was in the same situation you are. But I decided to go with a custom cam spec'd by patrick G. I always heard he did a job so I'll be trusting him on designing a cam. Hope that helps.
