Hello everyone, I am new to this site and am building a new project car currently.
i am building an ac cobra replica useing gen III engine, T56 transmission and AU falcon rear irs lsd centre from an xr8.
My first question is, My motor requires a rebuild (was an oil burner with piston slap)
My crank needs to be polished or ground and I need new pistons/rods, Do you guys think the $4500 c.o.m.e are asking for there stroker kit is worth the cost or since my car will be very light will i not really feel the difference useing the 383 stroker kit?.
I will be fitting modified heads, a cam and probably roller rockers, with in the future probably an 8 throttle body manifold (to get the look of down draught webbers)
If I dont go with the stroker where can i get pstons and rods from?
Can the pcm's be reprogrammed to work without the air flow meter ie HSV?
I do not have a pcm yet, do i need the PIM as used in aussie cars?
Who can i get a wireing harness from?
What do i need to reprogram the PCM?
Any help would be greatly appreciated, it is hard to get answers since i live in Alice Springs. But atleast the highways have open speed limits :drive:

Sounds like a great project.

You can check out some of the sponsors here for parts on the rebuild.

Also the PCM doesn't need the PIM or the BCM to run the engine. LS1Edit can do it all and tuning in speed density for a mafless set-up like 8 throttle boddies, is no problem. You can also get a wiring harness from the wreckers.

TIP! Get someone else to do the edit, you'll save time and money. A tuner near you can be found at:

You may be disappointed to find that the oil consumption and piston slap remain even after the engine is rebuilt. You should get rid of most of it, but it's a factory defect that has forever plagued the LS1s.

That is a little misleading. I have 2 LS1's with neither problem

Well his engine already suffers from these problems, and from everything I've read on the issue, the piston slap and oil consumption usually remain after the engine has been fully rebuilt.

But yes, not ALL LS1s suffer from these problems.
